Remembering Marx WOW Figures

If you were a kid in the 1960s who loved history and toy soldiers, you probably had a WOW figure!

Hi all, just putting on my SOA hat to let you know that Slingshot 298, for January and February 2015, is now on its way to Society of Ancients subscribers. It includes the battle pack for the Society battle day (being held on the 28th of this month), as well as a variety of other articles.

The articles in this edition include:

- Hydaspes Battle Pack, by Richard Lockwood
- The Society of Ancients Championship, by John Graham-Leigh & Martin Smith
- Commands & Colors on the Tabletop (3), by Steven Neate
- Mesopotamian Warfare Notelet (6): Three Mysteries of the East, by Alastair McBeath
- New Works on Early Byzantine History, by Jim Sye
- Virtual Triremes, by Richard Taylor
- Visiting Skipton & Corfe Castles, by Peter Barham
- Behind the Curve – Archery in Wargames, by Nick Harbud
- The Battle of Dunnichen 685 using Dux Bellorum, by Steven Neate
- Light Infantry in the Ranks of Cavalry, by John Hogan
- Follow That Leader, by David Kay
- The China Game, by Mike Haran

You might like to check the soa.org.uk homepage and take a look at some of the classic Slingshot articles available for download there. The latest one is Paul V Walsh's article on William Wallace, and the one before that Patrick Waterson's on the battle of Zama.

Cheers,
Aaron

Is it the Society, the magazine, or the guy in red that's 50 years? :-)

uglyfatbloke05 Mar 2015 3:55 a.m. PST

50! A mere boy…a stripling even.

Just signed up again after 3 years without it.

Yes!
Finaly the battle pack for Hydaspes, though I can't go to the battle day.
I'm thinking of staging a game at the local club (in Belgium). I just don't know yet what rules to use.

You look to be local to Bletchley sumerand akkad, perhaps we can hope to see you at the battleday?

Oh Bugger05 Mar 2015 4:28 p.m. PST

Looking forward to this. Slingshot is always a treat.

Neil at MKWS has been trying to recruit me for many years but I'm a solo wargamer by choice. I used to belong to the club and enjoyed it but prefer solo.
I am glad Campaign is back as I always go when not working.
I will try to attend Battleday (?) as the SOA meetings in London, whilst eventful behind the scenes, were also enjoyable.

We have quite a few solo wargamers who both write in Slingshot and post on the Forum . I understand that guests can now read the threads on the Forum so go have a look.
