Most handsome beast!

Can you say from what the globe is made? Even with the heavy washer base, unless styrofoam, I'd be a bit concerned about rolling onto ships.

I tend to prefer semi-spheres for just that reason; you give up a bit of depth for stability.

The planet is made with a styrofoam dphere, the first layer (black) was applied with a thick brush, the rest wi a sponge.

Life forms on a volcanic planet

"A cold place, with quite a few hotspots. On this planet, life is concentrated around areas with volcanic activity. Of which there are plenty."

Sounds a bit like the old view of benthic earth…

;->=

Of course, there's always 'a hulking alien made of volcanic rock' from The Savage Curtain.

Along with creatures that fly through gas giants, I've oft imagined ones that were living magma. What strange and exotic processes must happen to give them any stability…

@noigrim Sounds fine, though I'd be the one who would have an errant breeze pass through the room and tip it over. ;->=

Well the planet has a round base, so it's quite stable

TheBeast Supporting Member of TMP07 Mar 2015 12:41 p.m. PST

Oh, I saw the base; I'd guessed it a thick washer earlier, which SHOULD be more than enough to keep it quite secure.

However, bit of a change on the foolproof aphorism: no matter how hard they work to make it unbreakable, they find a bigger klutz.

C'est moi!

Great looking planet! I may have to give that a try for my own terrain collection.
