12 man unit seems just about right. Good work on these Mike. Have to see how they fare against Seleucid cataphracts……..

A fine looking unit! It's fantastic that there are so many good Polybian ranges around these days.

Thanks gents, we're absolutely spoilt for choice with all the great metal and plastic ranges around!

I love the Victrix romans. I finished my first legion (72 fellows) really quickly but have been dawdling on the remaining 3. I think I shall paint them this evening.

Great work as usual Mike. Bet you did 'em in like 20 minutes – you Sir are a painting machine! Need to bring 'em along to the club one of these days so Garry can give them a thrashing with his pike blokes :o)
cheers

I think Caesar Mike now has 2 full legions plus some Allied? Small Roman units under Hail Caesar are tough, they can take on standard units and win. Playing against them with Gauls showed they are also vulnerable. I lost 2 warbands, some Roman units had been destroyed and all those remaining were shaken.

Mike had deployed in line rather than in chequerboard.

I think the 'trick' for the Romans is to hold their nerve, in effect write off the hastati but then clean up the weakened enemy with the princeps. The triarii can be used to plug any gaps or probably reinforce the cavalry and prevent a flank collapse.

Have just finished my Seleucid Silver Shields so Antiochus could take up the opportunity and throw the invading Romans into the sea. Next up are more cataphracts.

Thanks Gary and Garry, a Seleucid vs Republican Roman game would be good. I think there is a meeting on Wednesday evening 1 April, otherwise the next Sunday meeting is on 11 April? I can do three divisions with Pergamene allies…

Cheers

Mike.

April 11 sounds like a plan – have a unit Relic's Agema to try out and will try to have the Polemarch cataphracts ready.

May need to borrow some phalangites.

Will see how 500 points and 3 divisions stack up.

Absolutely beautiful work. I'm not sure about the scutum, but that the model. What you've done isn't detracted from at all.
