"Just days ago, the generals were trumpeting plans to knock ISIS out of its most important stronghold in Iraq. Now, those plans are on indefinite hold.

The U.S. military's goal to retake Iraq's second largest city from the self-proclaimed Islamic State has been pushed back several months at least, defense officials told The Daily Beast. That's a major shift for the Pentagon, which recently announced that the first major ground offensive in the war against ISIS could come in the next few weeks.

Defense officials once hoped that Iraqi troops could move into Mosul by the Spring and reclaim the city from ISIS. Now, those officials say, Fall is more realistic. And even that date was tenuous.

"It is an Iraqi decision but we don't want to do anything until they are ready and can win decisively," a military official explained to the Daily Beast. "They cannot now."…"

Well … the first mistake was letting Deash know you are coming. And in the detail of the probable month(s) the attack will occur. And of course we still see the mistake is thinking the Iraqi army will ever be worth a Bleeped text

And we're forgetting that a press release might be intended for hostile eyes, aren't we?

Pushed back until the Fall, at least, or so I heard on TV.

This is why ISIS is winning.

We make threats and don't carry them out, and they make good on all of theirs.

With the 20:1 odds in favor of the Iraqi army (I use that term very loosely) being mentioned in the intel lapse, it's amazing to me that they're still worried about being able to win, decisively, so have now had to cancel/postpone the operation.

Pitiful!

Yes, disinformations is possible … To paraphrase Sun Tzu, "All war is deception." … But with the fragile Iraqi forces, I'd rather the enemy have no idea of anything happening until minutes before they die … But that's me, after being an Infantry Officer and later an Intel Officer … I'd think a much more detail deception plan would/should be in effect. But if it is a good plan, we wouldn't know anyway …

Sobieski is right, as is Legion 4, when he cites Sun Tzu. There is far more to this than we know or hear about. To tell you the truth, I thought it odd when the first prediction was made. It sounded hinky to me.

I'm not going to take anything any Administration says for all to hear concerning their plans in wartime. They tell us what they want us to hear, and what they want "the bad-guys" to hear.

As I say many times … by the time you know for sure … it may be too late … wink
