It seems both are obviously well represented, but which do you think is more common for ww2 games? Individually based figures representing one soldier (Chain of Command, Nuts) or stands representing multiple soldiers (Command Decision, Spearhead). |

Anything other than skirmish level I us stands. |

Stands for my 6mm and 15mm, and individual for my 28mm. |

I prefer higher level games, so my infantry are on stands. My vehicles are individually based. I have friends who like skirmish level games, so theirs are individually based. |

From what I have seen, the majority seem to mount 25s individually, and the smaller scales on bases. 20s seem to be a more mixed bag between individual figs and bases. |

Amongst my gaming buddies we almost all have a small collection of individually based figures for skirmishing, and vast collections of based figures. I have one box file of individuals and (at least) 20 boxfiles of based ww2 stuff. |

1/285th and 15mm I use stands for company to brigade level games, 28mm I base individually for skirmish level. |

Like others, depends on the scale. Stands (bases) for 6mm and 15mm. 28 mm individually based. Done both for 20mm. JohnG |

Stands for 3mm. Individual for 20mm and 28mm. |

I base 6mm. I have done 15mm in both individual and bases, depending on the game it is for, and 20mm and up is all individual. That said, I mount crew served weapons on bases with their crew (mortars, HMG, MMG etc.). I am not a fan of based vehicles regardless of the scale, so I don't base them at all, 6mm on up. Now, all that said, I saw pics of someone's game of Crossfire (I think) with all based minis in groups and they were 1/35 scale on a huge (and I mean HUGE) table. So, it just really depends on what you want to do with them, in my opinion. |

I've always individually based them for anything larger than 6mm, but the impression I have is that most people use stands. |
Tgunner | 01 Mar 2015 7:22 a.m. PST |
Individual for skirmishing. I would base for platoon and higher games. |
nazrat | 01 Mar 2015 12:05 p.m. PST |
I like both equally depending on the game being played. |

Well, Flames requires stands, and Battlegroup can use either stands or individuals. If you do pure stands, though, you need a way to track casualties. What I've been doing is to buy an additional platoon of whatever army and mounting that platoon individually to "make change" from the stands. |
Herkybird | 01 Mar 2015 1:45 p.m. PST |
Individual for skirmishing, stands for larger! |
Weasel | 01 Mar 2015 6:24 p.m. PST |
Lion – not a bad idea to have some "spare change". Particularly if it's a platoons worth, so you can get the best of both worlds :) |
Rudysnelson | 01 Mar 2015 7:05 p.m. PST |
Skirmish and 1:5 ratio players go with individual. Most unit per stand guys use stands. |
Martin Rapier | 02 Mar 2015 3:34 a.m. PST |
Yes, 'spare change' is the way to go, also a mixture of numbers of figures on standards (mine are usually two or three, plus lots of individual leaders/snipers/spotters etc which can double up as 'change' if needed). |

I never could get my head around the concept of two to four figures on a base representing a company of 160 or so men armed with a variety of weapons – sort of defeats the object of miniatures gaming in the first place. May as well dig out my Axis & Allies board games and play one of those. YMMV I play battlegroup which is individual bases anyway, so all mine are on fender washers except for heavy weapon crews which are grouped on stands. I'm far too much of a cheapskate to buy and paint extra platoons just to supply small change! Now if I'm playing WWI it doesn't seem to matter as nearly everyone is a rifleman anyway so I'm happy to go with 4 figure platoons….. |

20mm base individually (Arc of Fire, Battlegroup Normandy etc. Chain of Command) then have sabots (magnetic bases from Litko) for Fireball Forward, Battlefront WWII, and I suppose can use for Rapid Fire too. |
