This day 179 years ago, the siege of the Alamo entered its 5th day. Strong winds from the north kept temperatures low. Santa Anna instructed his sappers to dam the acequia that fed the Alamo. Consequently, Col. Travis ordered the digging of a second well. In the event it proved unnecessary as the Mexican sappers failed to stop the acequia. |
