Weather looking good, unlike some previous Cold Wars in Lancaster. Will be there Friday with wife, son, bro-in-law, and two friends. So far signed up for Battlegroup Kursk and Nuts games. Should be a blast! |

Current forecast for Lancaster: Tuesday, wintry mix 80% accum <1"(yech!)hi34/low32; Wednesday--showers 80% hi45/low25; Thursday--lite snow 70% hi26/low10; Friday Sunny (yay!) hi32/low19; Saturday Mostly Sunny (mostly yay!) hi44/low25, Sunday--mostly sunny, hi43/low27. Extremely low chance of precip from Friday onward. For you earlybirds, drive carefully and let the idiot drivers kill themselves, not you. See you/youse/you all/y'all/all y'all/y'uns/you'uns/ya's/y'ins/ye (did I miss any collectives?) there. |

Just hope the weather holds. Flying into Philly Thur and driving out to Lancaster and the last thing I want to do is resurrect my 30+ year dead snow driving skills… |
capncarp | 03 Mar 2015 8:59 a.m. PST |
link Whatever ice deposited by Tuesday's storm should be washed away by the 44F rain following on Wednesday. Also, there have been no measles outbreaks in PA for long past the 21-day course of the disease. (the one earlier claimed in Lancaster was a false alarm.) Leave yer germs at home, please. |
47Ronin | 03 Mar 2015 2:46 p.m. PST |
The forecast is for a snow/rain mix on Thursday for much of the Northeast. Friday and Saturday should be fine. Travel safe. Hope to see you there. |
rmcaras | 03 Mar 2015 3:51 p.m. PST |
we hope to following the storm in on Thursday, late enough for roads to not be too treacherous from Pittsburgh eastward. But currently the forecast shows 4 inches of snow Wednesday night into Thursday afternoon in Lancaster. But Accuweather felt the track & arctic air would drift southward from current projections. |
capncarp | 03 Mar 2015 10:03 p.m. PST |
The hourly forecast for Thursday for Lancaster predicts the chance of snow drops to 55% by 4pm, then down to 10% by 6pm. Considering this will be the main drive time for commuters going home from work, I trust PennDOT will have the roads serviceable, working most of the afternoon to keep the accumulations down. Besides, my dear chaps--Fear not the drifting snows! The OFM has shod the porters of his sedan chair with boot-chains; he is offering a very reasonable rate to pull your carriage out of snow banks. |
Moe the Great | 04 Mar 2015 8:31 a.m. PST |
I'm heading up early on Friday. Compared to Buffalo this winter, Lancaster will be shorts and T-shirt weather. |
historygamer | 04 Mar 2015 8:58 a.m. PST |
Coming from the DC area this approaching storm will have an impact on many attendees – if we get the snow fall they are currently calling for. I may even delay coming up day. I can't help but wonder why this convention seems to be held so early now, same for FI. I recall some past years where CW was in early April – no doubt impacted by the Easter holday, but still, this con seems about a week earlier than some past years, IIRC – same for FI. FI dates make even less sense in the out-years given HMGS is not capitalizing on the Veterans' Day to gain the holiday weekend. Who is running this airline? :-) |
capncarp | 04 Mar 2015 11:36 a.m. PST |
Hey, Moe: be sure to bring some Buffalo snow survival tips: sounds like lots of people would benefit from them this winter. |
rmcaras | 04 Mar 2015 3:09 p.m. PST |
CW has been from the first week of March all the way to the third week of April… I think, keeping it in March helped space out the three cons out to about 16-17 weeks. Where as, in late April, its 13 weeks or so between CW & Hcon. But I'd say the earlier in March, the more you are tempting volatile and dangerous traveling weather. But, then, is a week or more much different? I think you'd have to slip into April? YMMV. |
Charlie 12 | 04 Mar 2015 5:08 p.m. PST |
Yeah, moving it a week later or so probably wouldn't dodge the late storms. You'd have to move into April for that. Just the "joys" of winter. if the storm hit one day earlier, there would be no impact; a day later and all hell breaks loose. (Now I know why I've stayed in SoCal… BTW, the weather out here for the weekend is 70-80 degrees and sunny…). |
Tumbleweed | 04 Mar 2015 6:14 p.m. PST |
At 8 PM Wednesday we are here in Lancaster and it is raining. Other than that, nothing to report. |
capncarp | 04 Mar 2015 7:45 p.m. PST |
Here in Harrisburg, about 30 miles NW of Lancaster, by 2145 the 38F rain has washed most of the large accumulations of snow/crud away. Just in time for the next deposition of snow Thursday. for real-time traffic conditions via 511PA 511pa.com/traffic.aspx |
demiurgex | 04 Mar 2015 7:45 p.m. PST |
DC area forecast is volatile – anywhere from 2-4 inches to 8-12 on Thursday. This followed by single digit lows to freeze up all those roads. Might delay my coming up as well. |
