Hi How does the new 'Blucher' rules set deal with combat – is there a seperate small arms fire phase followed by Melee combat? Or Is there a generic 'all in one' combat phase which encapsulates everything? Thanks. |

There is a fire phase and a combat (close combat) phase. They are seperate and handled a little differently from what I can tell. Firing is handled based on the elan of the unit. You roll as many dice as you have elan requiring "6's" to hit (unless a bonus applies were a single 5 also hits). Hits take elan away from a unit straight away. Close combat also uses the elan of a unit to determine how many dice are rolled, but they hit on "4,5,6". You roll defender first, and the attacker has to beat that score with whatever bonus's apply. The difference in the scores in how much elan is taken away. The attacker always takes at least 1 to show that it charged and is tired. But I've only played 2 games, so someone better than I can explain perhaps. |

Hi I imagine that 'Elan' relates to the figures in the boxes which are printed on the cards that can be purchased seperately? If so, then that seems like quite a fast flowing process. Thanks. |

Speedy Grande Armee is how I think of it. |

Elan seems to me to be a combination of Morale, ability and actual numbers. If you purchase the 100 days card box all the cards that have troops on them have the elan printed on them. There is also a "+ -" on some of the cards that indicate that the brigade is over sized or under strength which give a dice or take a dice away in close combat. You can make your own or download some for free from the honour website by printing the 1809 scenario (I think) |

There is also a DIY template you can download for free from the website so you can build your own card set based on whatever campaign you might desire. Also, remember the cards are not mandatory but an interesting alternative to playing with miniatures. |

The Combat process is pretty much as described above with one or two factors added into the mix to take care of things like Cavalry attacking infantry in what represents Squares, Conscripts v Regulars, the usual mix one would expect. It's quick, clean & easy to follow. Much like the rest of the rules. There's also the added bonus that if you are a "Longstreet" player you will have learnt the procedure already! With the appropriate period differences of course! |

Also, remember the cards are not mandatory but an interesting alternative to playing with miniatures. No offense, Old Grunt, but I found this statement slightly funny, given that this is 'The Miniatures Page'…. Possibly, in a parallel universe, someone has written 'Also, remember, the miniatures are not mandatory but an interesting alternative to playing with cards.' ;-) |

No "possibly" about it. Within the concept of the multiverse if it hasn't already been said it will be and considerably more than once in either instance. Assuming of course we're all using a commonly accepted datum point for the 'now' too deal an idea of the past and future. |
