Hey everyone, I would like to game Operation Barbarossa in 15mm with individually based figures. Preferably something for the Company level, or that would work with 4 players controlling a company each with support elements. Thanks! |

Just how big are your tables? |

I'd try I Ain't Been Shot, Mum by TFL. If you wanted to go a bit higher level, say a battalion or two per side, Command Decision, Test of Battle works well. Chris |

Moving an entire company w/ individual figures will take a long time. |

As above, if you _really_ want to do battalion sized battles with multiple players running full companies of individually based figures, then IABSM might work. You'll find it a lot easier if you base the figures in fireteams/gruppen or whatever though. Other suggestions might be Peter Pigs PBI, possibly FiveCore Company Command, Fireball Forward, Crossfire – note these are all element based by a player can comfortable run a company. You could substitute figures for elements if you wish. Umm, Rapid Fire and pretend each 'battalion' is a company. Going real old school then Charles Grants 'Battle' rules would work, as would the Lionel Tarr WW2 rules published in Don Featherstones 'Wargaming'. Individual figures. Personally I find the Eastern Front benefits from more grand tactical games, Spearhead, Command Decision etc. |

For that scale of battle, most rules will be element/stand/fireteam based. IABSM works really well for large battles though an entire battalion of individually based figures are going to be a pretty long game, no matter which way you slice it. Regardless of combat mechanics, you're picking up and moving a lot of individual gits. |

If you go with IABSM you may want to take a look at their scenario/campaign supplement Vyazma or Bust: link Also check out Battlegroup Barbarossa link |

I don't look for rules specific to one theater, I look for rules that are fun and work for many different theaters. |

Is each book required for each theater? Or could you get the mini core rules and play just fine? |

Von Ted- if your query is about Battlegroup, then yes, you do need theatre books, as these contain all army lists and equipment tables. The mini rule book is just the core rules. |

…and if you buy Battlegroup Barbarossa with the new Blitzkrieg book you get the rules free… Ok, thats my blatant advertising over with for the year. Battlegroup works by having a small rulebook for the core rules and then you just pick the supplement you want to go with it.
Some AARs for Battlegroup Barbarossa over on The Guild if you want to see more… guildwargamers.com Im not sure you would want four players with a company each playing Battlegroup… That would be a very big game, best suited to a higher level set of rules.
However four players, with one or two platoons plus support each, is what we do all the time with Battlegroup. |
