Hi all, I made an excel document where I listed all the wargames I know that are both available in PDF and that can be played solo either as part of the system or by using add ons, official or fan made. Here is the link to the document. link I would appreciate any suggestions considering games I have not mentioned, so that I can update the document. Please note that 2HW games are compressed into groups, or they would take too much space. |

I have yet to come across a game I CANNOT play solo … |

Solo play is when you play against the system, or pre-programed opponent. The player makes no, or very little decisions for the "enemy" side. Otherwise you are playing two player game, just that YOU are both persons playing. For me this is not solo. |

MajorB is right. "Programmed Games" might be a better term. Are there are tons of those, in the form of adventure books. How far do you want to take it? |

The Rattrap Productions games (.45 Adventure, Gloire, Fantastic Worlds and Broadsword Adventure) are to some extent solo play-friendly in the sense you've defined. They're rather freeform-type rulesets that allow for all kinds of situations from adventure fiction to take place, from your straightforward head-on encounter between opposing groups of combatants to those less "wargame-y" situations where one side is decidedly the active protagonists and the other is the reactive "mooks". It's the latter sort of situations that can easily be played as "programmed games". That said, the rules don't give you precise instructions for how to do this. In the freeform spirit of these games, the player is encouraged to be creative and build his/her own narrative scenarios. For solo games this would typically involve coming up with your own rules structures for determining how enemies act and react. I can't recall how many of the example scenarios in the books are for solo play, but they're definitely in the minority. I do distinctly remember a solo-play scenario in Gloire wherein the player controls a swashbuckling hero sneaking around in the streets of a city, avoiding, hiding from or silently killing/incapacitating patrolling enemies. It has a system for enemy actions/reactions (including, IIRC, what would happen if the alarm is raised and the situation turns into one of overt combat), but it was tailored for that specific scenario and intended to be used more as a source of inspiration for making your own scenarios than as a definite rules mechanic to be ported into said scenarios. |

"Otherwise you are playing two player game, just that YOU are both persons playing. For me this is not solo." right solo is playing by yourself otherwise you are playing with… wait. |

@ Rhoderic Thanks for mentioning Rattrap, I completely forgot about it. These are old classics, and I have these games, but they slipped down the memory line as the new things appeared. I will add them to the list. |

Two Hour War Games – solo, co-op, head to head. A definite seismic shift in my gaming non-aerial battles. |

I would love to see this, but I have not got Office 2007-10, I still use Office 2003! and my beloved Windows XP! |

and my beloved Windows XP! Support for Windows XP has now ended: "If you continue to use Windows XP now that support has ended, your computer will still work but it might become more vulnerable to security risks and viruses. Internet Explorer 8 is also no longer supported, so if your Windows XP PC is connected to the Internet and you use Internet Explorer 8 to surf the web, you might be exposing your PC to additional threats. " link I strongly recommend you plan to upgrade soon … |

I got a friend to look for me! The ones I can think are missing are; Wings of Glory Sails of Glory X-Wing All of which I have done solo rules for. Actually, a lot of my rules are solo playable, often with integral solo systems designed in. All these can be downloaded from: link Good project you have there! |
