Thought you all might like to see the first preview of the 15mm late Sengoku period Japanese. These are for the endgame in this period, when armies had become larger and more professional, and armour was more practical and less bulky. Here we see one of the ashigaru dolly models and one of the samurai. There are multiple dollies for each. We've also had multiple heads made (these are just stuck on for the sake of the image) and sashimono and weapons as well (katana, yari, naginata, and tanegashima -- the yumi will be added to troops armed with it separately). At this point I'm leaning toward the yari and naginata being separate pieces, as will the sashimono. Say tuned for developments -- it's a ways off but it's exciting to see these exquisite little sculpts coming together.

Wow, exquisite is just the word. |

Really impressive! I trust you'll make sure the sashimono are cast with "integral" pins to facilitate pinning onto figures. |

…the sashimono are cast with "integral" pins… I seem to remember the old Two Dragons 15mm Samurai had them. |

Very nice indeed – unfortunately I have 28mm and will not be venturing into 15 (really really not although these are sooo shiny ….) I assume the Sashimono are separate ? Perhaps there could be a way to assemble them so that paper flags could be used ? This would get around the problem where they look too thick. Possibly etched brass …. Thanks John |

ooooh, niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice! How nicely do I need to ask for you to look at making some Gempei War samurai? I'd be in for several hundred. |

Why am I evil? Why? You, sir, release some of the absolutely finest figures and models I have seen in nearly 40 years of involvement with this industry, and you ask me why you are evil? You produce a steady stream of irresistible subjects fantasy, sci-fi, and historical covering everything from hobgoblins to Haniwa Period Japanese, from Mapuche to Qing Chinese, from a science fiction line that is an industry gold standard setter that just keeps growing to modern SOCOM forces, and you wonder why I call you evil?
Mister, I am still trying to finish what I already have purchased from you, including all of those fantastic Jasmine Throne Foreign Battalion troops in addition to everything else in my life, and you just keep churning out more figures covering more neglected-yet-wonderful subjects than I will ever possibly be able to paint in ten lifetimes, and now you go and announce that you're proceeding with my all time favorite period of military history, and of course the sculpts will be done to an impeccable standard of execution and historical accuracy, and you wonder *why* I declare you are evil?! My God, man, I haven't even managed to work my way through half of my 28mm Perry samurai as it is, and you are going to deploy 15mm figures that rival the Perry Twins' wares in quality, detailing, and accuracy?! Diabolical, I tells ya, mister, you are diabolical! Please, whatever you do, don't stop. Leland R. Erickson Metal Express metal-express.net

I don't know, you seem to be able to resist them just fine. |
BlackWidowPilot | 27 Feb 2015 1:50 p.m. PST |
I don't know, you seem to be able to resist them just fine. As I'm still enduring the status of semi-starving grad student, i don't currently have a choice (and even I know that resistance to Khurasan Miniatures is futile, so sooner or later I'll be submitting for assimilation).
That said, I can dream, plot, and scheme, as my thesis is done at long last, and the paradigm is already starting to show telltale signs of shift…. either that, or all my hard work is inadvertently opening a wormhole, my being a mad genius and all…. we shall see…. Dreaming doesn't help me pay for all the sculpts certain persons are always demanding. Funny story, and naming no names. There was a guy who is very active on this forum always posting what he wants to see made (which seems to change every time he sees a sci fi TV show or movie), and he was all excited at one point about a certain kind of resin building set. He got a lot of people excited about it, and so one manufacturer decided to make it. You know, the whole "It's gone viral" thing. Well, after that manufacturer made the terrain set, guess who didn't buy it? I have this straight from the manufacturer, who is no longer in business…. |

Dreaming doesn't help me pay for all the sculpts certain persons are always demanding. Well, I've done what I can when I can to enable your bad behavior, and I'll post the photos up on my blog to prove it as soon as I get some more of your fine wares finished (promise).
As for the tale of woe, it's an object lesson taught to me a very long time ago by a then old hand in this industry. In my case it was to enlighten me as to why so many manufacturers kept producing Roman legionaries rather than say more "exotic" subjects like Han Chinese or Ghaznavids. The lesson was further pounded into my skull working for a very successful game store chain here in Northern CA back in the '80s. The company president was a tenured professor of business at UC Davis, and he took me aside and imparted some basic principles of retail business, not the least of which was "Never, never, never overextend yourself!"
If producing a project is going to stretch your business's financial solvency to the degree that if the new venture fails your business will go under, you really shouldn't proceed with the project. Given your professional background as I understand it, you are more than aware of this hard lesson in why so many small businesses fail (and hence your demonstrated resolve in the face of the exuberance of enthusiastic crazies like yours truly). So I'll keep my beady oculars peeled for further developments with this line. BTW, if it takes off, would you then perhaps consider producing late 16th century Ming Chinese suitable for the Imjin War? As I don't see the Perry Twins making 28mm Ming any time soon before I die of extreme old age, I may have to get my fix for some Imjin War action in 15mm after all… Leland R. You can always commission them, $100 USD USD a pose. OK, that doesn't seem outrageous. It will take me a while to scrape the $$ together, though, since I think I'm looking at ~4 dismounted poses and another 4 mounted (plus I want a couple different horse poses). |

Update -- master castings made and sent to the sculptor. Korean masters made and the sculptor keeps making japanese fantasy stuff too! |
BlackWidowPilot | 13 Mar 2015 4:25 p.m. PST |
OK. You're truly evil and must be destroyed, I say! So do tell, will you be releasing Ming Chinese suitable for the Imjin War as well? They *were* more than a little helpful to the Koreans in dealing with their samurai infestation problem 1592-98….

I will keep the faith, and I *will* buy when I get through the existing pile of things Khurasan enough to justify another sudden spike in the Procurement Budget to She, Who Must Be Obeyed… Promise! BTW, we're getting closer to being ready to start playtesting our new ground combat skirmish system. Mind if we use some of your fine 15mm sci-fi figures for playtesting and eventual inclusion of photos of same when we publish the finished rule book?
Leland R. Erickson Metal Express metal-express.net P.S. My Khurasan want/need list:
*15mm Hobgoblins, enough for a well rounded army including plenty of Entelodont cavalry. *15mm GOTA Clan Scutarii including plenty of the new support weapons teams on the horizon. *15mm Federal Army troops – enough for a mechanized demibrigade. *15mm Hauk – enough for an airmobile demibrigade. *Anything new and JTFB. *15mm Qing Dynasty Chinese and Mongols – enough for a pair of decent sized armies to square off with to recreate some of the battles of the Qing campaigns against the steppe nomads. |

Jeez, Leland, got many projects going? I thought I was bad! K, Ming Chinese and Imjin-era Koreans are an excellent accompaniment to the late-Sengoku Samurai, since they fought rather heavily in the ~10 years of the Invasion of Korea. Not sure how many people actually game that rumble, though. :( If I won the lottery, I'd be commissioning Heian/Gempei War/Early Kamakura samurai and probably Mongols. |
