All, I'm excited to announce that I recently obtained the 60+ troop movement maps Ed Bearss did for Petersburg National Battlefield in digital form. However, they come in base maps, containing terrain only, and troop movement overlays, showing troop movements only. I'll be slowly cleaning these up and then overlaying the troop movement files onto the terrain files to create the finished product. Look for these after the end of the Siege of Petersburg Sesquicentennial, starting at some point in April. For now, I want to give you a sneak peek: link When I finish, all of these maps will be freely available to anyone who wants to download them. I suspect wargamers will find these extremely useful. |

You're welcome. Wait until you guys see the rest! I'll be making entire maps freely available on my Siege of Petersburg Online site, one a day, starting in mid-April. I just need to clean them up first. Brett |

I've always wanted to do a new section on Civil War Virtual Tours on Stones River using Ed's maps as the basis (plus a lot of research, of course). I've just never had the time to do so. |

All, I have great news. Rich Hasenauer just happened to read my post here and he has graciously offered up his expertise as a retired graphic artist to do the overlays for me. He's done amazing work, and these should be available in the coming weeks. I'll do a few teaser posts with areas of the battlefields as Rich finishes them. The plan is still to offer these up, one a day, starting in mid-April 2015. I'll make sure I post here once that starts to happen. |

Update: Here's a look at some close-ups from the set of Crater maps, including the troop positions at the mine explosion and Weisiger's attack: link |

Hello Brett, These will be a wonderful complement to Bearss' text in the two Petersburg Campaign volumes recently published by Savas Beattie. I do not believe that Bearss did any TMMs for the fighting to the north of the James. Those battles fall under the purview of the Richmond National Battlefield Park and when Bearss did his maps it was specifically for the Petersburg Park unit. It's most unfortunate, as Bearss' volumes are the best overview of the campaign's battles, but do not really integrate the actions with the activities in front of Richmond. |

Ryan, Thanks for mentioning the Richmond maps topic, because I found some verification that Bearss did do troop movement maps for at least Ft. Harrison and one or more of the Darbytown Road battles: link I'll be working on obtaining copies of those soon. |

Today I've got a new post up on the maps depicting the Ninth Corps assault on Fort Mahone on April 2, 1865 at Petersburg: link Rich H. is making great progress on these maps. I can't wait to dig in once the Sesquicentennial ends in early April. |
