I have more 28mm medieval figures than I could probably ever paint, but every time someone releases new feudal/high medieval figures I have to buy some. This time it is the new Curteys figures (and head packs). I have plenty of figures already painted to run any game that I want, but I just can't help it. Does anyone else have an army that they just keep buying for even though it has been done for years?

No.

15mm WW2 Russians. Whenever I get near to thinking "that's enough," I read about some other part of the war that I want to game. So yeah, I have plenty of Russians for Kursk, but what about winter battles? So now I need Russians (and Germans!) in winter gear, and I'll need tanks, so I'll just re-purpose those old Pz IIIs I'm replacing with nicer models anyway…

I'm sure you understand.

Or there's some battle where I need some obscure Russian tanks that don't look like the ones I already have (currently hoping for T-40s!).

But who am I to complain? Today is Red Army Day!

I'm sorry … "done"? … speak English, will ya?

nazrat23 Feb 2015 4:41 p.m. PST

There's "done" which means you have more than enough painted to play games with it, and "finished" which really isn't a thing… 8)=

Well, then, all my armies are "done", since when I run out of Soviets, I will happily fill out the ranks with Orcs. It's a bit of an insult to Orcdom, but they'll get over it …

DesertScrb23 Feb 2015 5:09 p.m. PST

I do the same thing. I have more spaceship minis than I can fit on the table in a single game, but I still can't resist when I see a good deal on eBay.

Lately I've started doing this for my Ogre minis--I have more than enough armor and infantry to run almost any scenario, but I end up buying more terrain as well as additional miniatures, die-cast vehicles, and even plastic model kits to add to my games as new units.

Ragbones23 Feb 2015 5:33 p.m. PST

Yes, my 15mm Colonial armies for the Anglo-Zulu War and the campaigns in the Sudan. They'll never be 'done.' grin

28mm Italians Wars

Yep, 15mm Ottoman turks.

Dave Crowell23 Feb 2015 6:38 p.m. PST

Yep. When I was playing Warhammer I did Skaven. As in at least one of every rat themed miniature that I played eyes on. Every. Single. One. If it was a rat I had to have it.

My 15mm Trojan Wars include every appropriate figure I could track down.

I have over thirty pounds (weight) of Arthurians and am still adding to that pile.

I am not sure that I will ever get all my 40mm AWI painted, but I'm trying. Mean while I keep getting more.

"Done" is not a concept that applies to my armies.

Thank you for the therapy session, I feel better that I am not alone…even though I am quite sick!

Mark you and your self control, and your damn mouse can just keep quiet…

Coyotepunc and Hatshepsuut23 Feb 2015 8:15 p.m. PST

Yes, I am done. If the shakiness stops, I will go back and finish the four DBA armies I am working on. I am currently working on a toy conversion. Once it is finished (and only then!) I will look for another toy project to work on.

Grelber23 Feb 2015 9:03 p.m. PST

I don't think buying a pack of exciting new figures for your army every few things is really a problem. I do that, and life goes on (and my lead pile grows). To some degree, I had just assumed this was the way it was.

However, with my Vikings . . .

Heh. Be happy you weren't this guy: noserf.com/?page_id=188

(That's me, by the way.)

I was about say I was about caught up with my spaceship minis — I'm *finally* getting around to painting my Orcs — but then I looked in my box and I've got all sorts of odds and ends still waiting to be painted.

snurl124 Feb 2015 4:34 a.m. PST

I have way too many Dwarves. There are still many unpainted ones, even after I sold some. Stopped buying them though. for now.

Inkpaduta24 Feb 2015 11:48 a.m. PST

Nope. Time, money and age has put an end to that.

14Bore24 Feb 2015 5:43 p.m. PST

For now I'm going for finishing my Russian First Western Army of Borodino but if I finish (1 1/2 divisions, 4 batteries, 2 Cavalry Regts) I am promising myself not to get any Russian Combat units. British Army units will be next.

OSchmidt25 Feb 2015 9:23 a.m. PST

I cured this problem years ago.

In my 18th Century armies, I developed rules and a system for acquisitions which tell you when to stop. Once you have a specific army, you can go and build a second, third etc. The system governs what you can put on a table top, so one you have enough table top units for all the combinations allowed, further units can simply be made for the basic army. After two or three you learn to mix and match, so it's not like your buying figures forever.

Great War Ace25 Feb 2015 9:42 a.m. PST

No. I only painted to be able to play. Once able to play, what I wanted to play, the painting stopped….

Buy more figures than I absolutely need ?

The very idea !

No,no,no….that way lies hobby madness.

(some of the above may not be 100% true. The hobby madness part is)
