Came across this. Really helps to see how units may have moved and changed formation. I'm sure it's already been mentioned before but new to me. youtu.be/uREJILOby-c |

That is a good one, I've actually taken part in riot training (as a 'rioter'). For slightly larger numbers, one of my favourites is the battle scene in Spartacus: YouTube link they are a bit ragged marching close up, but do actually look like Legions. |

I see those cops don't care about their flanks. ;) |

Very quickly and fluidly it seems, though it's obviously a drill. From the few times I've been able to observe this in real life (at a somewhat safe distance), police tend to be pretty well drilled though they benefit a lot from having any training versus a mob that isn't really functioning as a coherent entity. Also, is Martin about to delight us with tales of his anarchist hooligan youth? :-) |

"Also, is Martin about to delight us with tales of his anarchist hooligan youth? :-)" I am sure that would be highly entertaining, but no, this was a cardboard simulator at the Wargames Developments conference facilitated by some policemen. On the third run through the 'riot police' were baffled by the introduction of an obstacle – a desk, as they had to figure out how to get their close order shield formation around it. |
