A friend of mine got to game with a really well known Wargaming author last weekend. If you could, who would you like to game with and why? Or, if you have games with a famous gamer, how was it? Did it live up to expectations? Bob. |

The bloke that wrote Justified Ancients and Port & Wine – seems like he'd be a lot of fun to game with. |

Hal Thinglum…… Hal and I go way back to the beginnings of MWAN. I only got to meet him once when he was honored at some Historicon or another and that was for far too short a time. We began by writing snail mail letters to each other. Now, I can email him in an instant. Times certainly have changed. By the way, I have never played a wargame and probably never will. But if I ever did, it would have to be with Hal. |

I have play WAB with Rob Broom who beat me in the last turn and then danced around the table….he was a fun and funny opponent. I've also played routinely with Bob Jones, of the original Piquet fame and currently responsible for Die Fighting…a true gentleman with a deep interest in wargame design. In both cases not only did/does the gaming live up to expectations, I was also very impressed with them as gracious gamers. |

Perhaps this might be better done as a poll to avoid people just name-dropping the great and the good. wrt to inanimate objects, I have laid hands upon the very buildings photographed in Charles Grants 'Battle' and 'Napoleonic Wargaming'. We are not worthy. |

I had the good fortune to play in a Batailles de l'Ancien Régime [ link ] game at MilleniumCon 2008 opposite the rules author, Bill Protz. It was fun and educational and I actually stymied his cavalry charges against my infantry for a while. link Jim |

Id love to play in one of The Major Gemerals colonial games. They always looked like a hoot. I miss The Major General! Well, his site. Never met him. I'd say "my wife". She actually will play, but I'll make my "wish" be that she'd set up her own forces, have her own strategy, suggest scenarios, etc. Don't get me wrong: I love it that she'll play. Just wish her interest went a bit further. Played Scrabble with her last night, so it is my turn to choose a game! andy |

I'd love to have a game with Dan Carlin from the Hardcore History podcast. Maybe ancients, or something with the Mongols. I have heard that Vin Diesel is big into D&D, so if I ever meet him I'll invite him over for a game (I work in VFX for films, so it's profoundly unlikely, but not totally impossible). |

Couldn't give a daym. I'm too old to genuflect and status has no meaning in this hobby. The question would be, is he a good sport and likes to make jokes and have fun. If not- hit the road. |

Vin Diesel seems like a nice guy. Otherwise, Peter Jackson I suppose? |

Howard Whitehouse. Murphy. The OFM… Oh, heck, almost everybody from The Lounge (past or present) and, what the hey, most of the basic regulars here, too. Wish I could have met or gamed with Gary Gygax, Dave Arneson, and Aaron Allston. Would probably enjoy games with Jim Ward, Frank Mentzer, Frank Chadwick, Steve Jackson, Richard Borg, the Perrys, Rick Priestly, et. al. Oh, and Tom Wham. I can't imagine that any experience would beat playing Tom Wham in one of his classic games. |

Too late now, but I'd have loved to game with Robin Williams. Talk about a wise cracking gamer! And imagine how many characters he could bring to life, great and small. Might be hard to focus on the game. Hey, does that mean he would have had an unfair advantage? Still would have like to push lead across from him. |

It would have been fascinating to wargame with Brigadier Peter Young, co-author of Charge! and founder of the Sealed Knot. I'm sure the wily old Commando would have slaughtered my troops, but it would be well worth it! Alternatively, I would love to have joined Lloyd Osborne and Robert Louis Stevenson in Davos. |

I gamed against Brigadier Peter Young twice. He cheated like nobodies business, and then claimed this was legitimate because they were his rules. That said he was very generous with his wine and brandy and a great ranconteur. I also played against Don Featherstone, Peter Gilder, Charles Grant, Les Higgins, Ed Suren and Paddy Griffith before he became totally disillusioned with miniature gaming and afterwards, Chris Scott, Trevor Halsall, Dave Millward, Phil Barker amongst many others. Who would I like to game with now? Anyone who does not take the whole thing too seriously! |
TBClark1 | 01 Mar 2015 8:21 p.m. PST |
Brig Peter Young, Charles Grant and Terry Wise. Authors of my first three wargaming books and the only ones that I've reread time after time over the past 40 years and they never get old. |

David Chandler, Paddy Griffith, or Christopher Duffy. I'm mighty envious of you right now, Mr. Peculiar! |
