Does anybody make separate 28mm swords in metal that would be suitable for the Ansar? I've looked at all sorts of companies but haven't yet found anything suitable. I can make them but I'd rather not have to.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Castaway Arts, under 'Accessories'. They also have a fair range of camels, baggage as well as troops for both sides.

Surely most straight-bladed medieval swords would work?

Remember, the swords are straight, while the scabbards have that strange leaf shape. An actual leaf-bladed sword wouldn't come out of the sheath. Victorian illustrators seem not to have thought about this.

See ARMI 019 and possibly ARMI 022.

Some of my 28mm Dervishes (Hadendowa) are armed with the Mirliton spare swords as suggested and proposed by Vexilia.i also armed with them some of my old but still useful open handed and nicely designed Essex mounted Dervishes .they are very detailed and useful weapons.i find them so useful that i purchased more than one pack, here in Italy, and armed also my few Willies 30mm West African /Kanembu knights that, in case of need, make number for my Dervish or Ethiopians Cavalry units
