My wargames terrain consists of 2ft x 2ft boards with imbedded features such as roads and rivers. The static grass covering is uniform to ensure matching. However it is sometimes good to break up 'the expanse' with different coloured fields. So, looking at the Cigar Box 'Just Fields' sheet, I wonder if that would be a solution. If I cut out the fields and use them individually would that work? Or do they fray etc.? Clearly they would be easy to store. Has anyone tried this and can offer advice? |

I have seen some terrain they make which is designed to do this… I did not see any sign of fraying. Most of them are a little too cartoon like for my taste, but I recently saw one that seemed to be a different style. Less cartoon like for lack of a better description.. It looked very nice and laid very flat over the foam hills which were placed under it.. Another option for just fields is to cut brown felt pieces to size and simply dry brush them with browns and greens to make rows. |

You could try the premade felt fields by Hotz. I have 3 sets of these and they really are very good. You could also if you can be bothered make them yourself but for what they cost its hardly worth it. link |

I would order from Cigar Box. Hotz has a HORRIBLE reputation for lack of delivery, communication, although a good product. Cigar Box is doing everything that Hotz ever did – but better. |

I thought of trying a Cigar Box battlefield from North Star but at GBP60 plus postage it was too steep. |

I emailed Hotz a couple of months ago about a product. Never got a reply. Too many other places to spend my money. |

Thanks for the advice everyone. I think Cigar Box seems worth a go. |

My club got together to put in a combined club order. Five or more mats get 20% off when ordering direct. You have to pay postage, customs, and a Post Office fee, but even so iirc it brings the mats in at £45.00 GBP |
