From the new Conan to the new Aquaman, Jason Momoa is simply badass. This isn't the blonde guy wearing orange gilled tights and riding giant seahorses I remember as a kid, but he does look like someone you wouldn't want to mess with.

Trident only has 3 points, hence the work tri.

no matter what they do…it's still just aquaman.

Don't like the new look at all.

No, if it was "just aquaman" they would be halfway there.

This is Aquaman from Batman: The Brave and the Bold. There is a sense of fun in the character design, and that's how voice actor John DiMaggio plays him.

Here's Jason Momoa in the same role, from Zack Snyder's upcoming film; fierce, brooding, possibly unable to count, but certainly not fun.

All this gives me to ask whether Mr. Snyder has any affection whatsoever for the characters in the DC Comics universe. If he doesn't, why is he directing this movie? As a potential viewer, I am so turned-off by his interpretation that I doubt that I'll ever watch it. I'm certainly not going to be dropping $10 USD to catch it in the theatre.

Damn skippy.

While doing housework the other day, with the TV muted on some randomly chosen premium channel I walked in on the beginning of Man of Steel.

I didn't know what it was, but thought it looked pretty..um, interesting? Some guy is riding a dragon-thing. It wasn't until I saw Russell Crowe and that guy with the bad Quentin Tarantino haircut that I realized what it was.

MY GOD. That is Snyder's Superman? And anyone over the age of three AND who actually knows/cares ANYTHING about DC Comics is actually LOOKING FORWARD TO him making another one. Wow.

And for the record, I watched the second half a few months back. I don't think coming in late mattered much to my understanding of what was happening. Trainwreck-fascinating. And the color palette of that Bleeped textfest makes 'The Road' look like 'Speed Racer' Why? I have no Bleeped texting idea.

Nihilistic garbage. Anyone looking to waste money on the next fun-filled installment should just flush their money down the toilet. At least that won't make rich idiots richer.

Nicely said and spot on, BR!

Snyder has absolutely no respect and even worse no knowledge of ANY of the DC characters he is butchering. After the abomination that was Man of Steel I'll happily skip anything else he does for them.

What an utter no talent.

Halifax-
I also immediately thought of Raj and the Big Bang gang when I saw this. The running joke is pretty funny.

I don't think there is any way that the comic book/cartoon Aquaman could be reproduced in a live action film and avoid parody. The yellow and green costume is not going to work, the hammy ego from the cartoon is not going to work.

All you can do is hope that they can retain some parts of his character that is recognizably Aquaman. And find a decent plot, something which you would think would be easy considering stories have been written about him for over 70 years.

And don't call him Arthur.

The Beast Rampant21 Feb 2015 11:52 a.m. PST

I don't think anyone is talking about a (truly) faithful recreation- the changeover to a very different medium usually necessetates some revision.

But such changes have to be artfully inspired. Deciding to toss core aspects of a character out the window because you have A Better Idea, or because you find Americana stale and boring, or because you think John Q. Public just wants rapid-fire CGI explosions in place of characters, does NOT cut it.

The 3 Basics for making an American movie: Defy authority, blow things up and get naked. Courtesy of "Sweet Liberty," a fine movie despite Alan Alda.

Roosta22 Feb 2015 6:17 a.m. PST

I agree with raj. Aquaman sucks.
