I had my first game of the One-Hour Wargame rules by Neil Thomas tonight, and I'm favourably impressed. I'm using them for a campaign set in Iberia around the time of the Second Punic War. The campaign I'm making up as I go along, but I will be keeping a record of the rules and probably putting them into a proper scheme later. Anyway, our hero, minor tribal leader Alortigis of the _____i, is attempting to expand his local power base while at the same time doing his best to avoid being caught up in the ongoing conflict between the Carthaginians and the Romans. His first battle was a great success. More can be read here: link Hope you enjoy! Cheers, Aaron |

We played these rules for the first time last Tuesday. We used my Franco Prussian minis and played 2 scenarios in less than 2 hours. They worked out pretty well. My only knock against them for Ancients is that there isn't rules for elephants or chariots. What are ancients without elephants or chariots!! Looks like I have to make some up |

Yeah, I made some rules up for caetrati to replace archers for this game. That's part of the fun of it though, I think :-) |

Wait you used Franco Prussian War figures as Ancients? Why didn't you use them as Franco Prussian War units and run the game using his "Rifle & Sabre" rules in chapter 12? or did you do that already and just wanted to do something different? Not being critical just wondering…. BTW like the game board. Oh if your looking for more detailed rules from Neil Thomas, try his Ancient & Medieval Wargaming rules, they're allot deeper than One Hour Wargames with Elephant rules, I've used them many times. |

Nope, they are true-hearted ancient Iberians, son of Apep! Magister Militum and Old Glory to be exact. I do wish I had some Franco-Prussian war figures though! Thanks for the suggestion regarding A&MW; I've played them before and quite enjoy them. The OHW ones are very fast and easily expandable by tweaking how many hits a unit can take and it's movement, melee, missile and armour values, so I want to stick with these for a few more goes yet. Do you have any house rules you use, for either game? Cheers, Aaron |

In A&MW we added leaders when attached give a +1 to morale and attack rolls, when within 8" of a unit just the morale bonus. Otherwise nothing really. I have yet to try OHW yet. Maybe well give them an old Greeks vs. Roman Republic try next. |

Good idea to add leaders. Might do something similar. Cheers! |

Well me and my other player didn't want to make them overpowering and keep to the spirit of the rules, that's why they're kinda restrictive and the low bonus and no variation, even if its Alexander or whatnot it's just a +1. |

Very much enjoyed the campaign so far. Look forward to reading more. |
