Hello – after another bad hiatus I'm pleased to say that Tarleton's Quartet is back in action and is returning to its AWI roots. There's a post about the 71st Foot using King's Mountain Miniatures highlanders here:

Thanks for looking.

Very nice, Giles. Will these be the 1st or 2nd Battalion? WHichever it is, have you massed all of your 71st for a "team photo" yet?

I'm researching "Point of Fork" (June 5th, 1781) for a future BG scenario book and that firing line is just the job for inspiration!

Oh, and "Happy Birthday" to TQ – the oldest of your progeny!

Outstanding work.

Tarleton's Quartet

What does Tarleton play – first violin? grin

GiloUK20 Feb 2015 9:11 a.m. PST

Indeed – I expect Tarleton refused to play second fiddle to anyone, although playing any kind of stringed instrument may have been difficult after he lost those fingers on his right hand. The proprietor of his website plays the viola :)

Thanks for the kind comments. SM, since writing that post I've remembered that the unit at Stono Ferry was the 1st battalion (I think), but I haven't painted any distinctions between the two battalions (other than the flags).

Aside from the flag, what distinctions were there between the battalions?

Giles, your web site is the standard to which all others should be measured. Your 71st look a lot like the way I painted and based mine -except better. I love these figures.
Here is a photo of mine.

A nice way to differentiate the 1st from the 2nd battalion is to give the first tartan trews as in Troiani and the second canvas overalls.

Or better, tartan and brown cloth, since otherwise they'd be in different seasons!

Tarleton's Quartet could utilise that figure of Frederick the Great playing the violin (or was it the flute) and his little chamber orchestra that you got from Eureka.

Yes, "Tarleton's Quartet" does exist: link

Can't believe I didn't think of that as a title for the post – doh! I have the Frederick figure painted up as well, which just leave CPE Bach and his pianoforte.

Very good to hear you are back to AWI Giles. Great looking figures as always.
