Wikipedia states that 31 A10s were sent to France; tanks-encyclopedia.com says 21. I see a few of them in 1st Armoured Division RHQ troops (Flames of War website for one) but aside from 9th Queens Royal Lancers & 3RTR that I don't have the info on at all, they are only going to account for another 2-6. Also were any CS, it seems only A9s are specifically mentioned as being the CS version?

As for the A13s there were usually 2 troops of them in each squadron but how many were Mk III Cruisers and how many Mk IV?

I know this has been asked before, just wondering..

The Images of War book "British Tanks – The Second World War" by Pat Ware states that 31 A10s were deployed to France with the BEF. It also states that, like the A9, there was a CS version of the A10. "British & American Tanks of World War 2" by Chamberlain & Ellis also confirms that there was a CS version of the A10.

"The Great Tank Scandal" by David Fletcher states that the Bays had 4 A9s, 3 A10s, 22 A13s and 21 Mk VICs and that this was typical.

"Royal Tank Regiment" by George Forty states that 3RTR had A10 CS tanks and that their A13s were the uparmoured (Mk II) version (although whether that was all of them or just those belonging to the particular troop being talked about is unclear – however, photos of wrecks around Calais all seem to be of Mk II A13s).

"Calais" by John Cooksey states that 3RTR also had A9s.

Aren't books wonderful:)

I think a visit to Abebooks is called for, David, thankyou, most informitive, I take it you would recommend the Forty book?

Sad figures for losses, mkenny, thanks for that info.

The Forty book on the RTR covers the whole history of the Regiment. The problem with it, and with most books, is that coverage of the Fall of France is brief, and evry book only has snippets giving details about the tanks used by the BEF.
George Forty also wrote "The Fall of France" which covers the nsubject in more detail, but again doesn't give a detailed breakdown of the tanke used by each regiment.
