I'm currently reading the Osprey campaign book on Kursk, and saw a photo of a knocked out pzIV from 2. Division 3. Regiment. The tank had an Eagle insignia painted on the side of the turret in front of the German cross insignia. I've seen unit insignia for Tiger companies, but not for regiment and company level units for other panzer units. Were lower level unit markings common? Are there any good resources? Thanks! |

No they weren't that common, but some units had them. Apart from digging through a ton of unit histories, the only single source I can think of would be Zalogas "Eastern Front Armour Camouflage and Markings 1941-45", although iirc it only has a limited set of heraldic markings. |

I was going to suggest looking through scale modeller's resources. There are a lot of company making decals and sometimes books that go with them describing the unit. A quick search pulled up this sheet from Bison, and I think it has decals for the tank you are talking about: link |
