I did this for a friend of mine, Bill, for Christmas. Another good friend sent me about 50 1/72 scale WW1 AC kits, just cause he wanted to! All from the 1960's thru the early 1980's. The Dr1 is a Revel 1982 kit, I painted, detailed, rigged & used a pilot from Orion Figures. I put the flares, step, lift handles & a few other goodies on it. I also used decals from about 3 other different kits. 35 year old decals rarely work! The Camel is a WOW, that I repainted. The small fire on the ground represents kill #79 & you can see #80. They both burned on the way down. Bill really liked it a lot & I think it came out rather well myself. Take a look & let me know what you think. LINK:

That is a difficult subject to turn into a diorama. I think you did a commendable job….

Thanks Guys! I noticed as I was loading the pics, I have the wrong date on there!(head hung in shame…) I put 21 April 1918, I fixed it on one pic,(the one you can see) now I gotta go to Bill's and replace the front name plate. A gamers work is never done, even when you think it is… Appreciate all the kind words though!

Very nice. If I might make one suggestion?

I would tilt the Camel's nose lower. The fire coming out sideways and the right wing low attitude indicates a spin but biplanes generally spin very nose low.

The other possibility is a sideslip to take the flames away from the pilot..in which case the wings should be tilted quite sharply left wing low

Brilliant work though!

A nitpick for certain, but shouldn't it be Richthofen?

Boy howdy, did I screw up on that nameplate! Thanks Chris. Tin Man, thanks for that, I'll try to do that when I replace the nameplate. That's a pretty stiff wire & the Camel is glued to it, but I'm gonna give it a shot. BTW, the artwork by JB Deneen that I used as reference shows it the way you said. Thanks!!
