Which 15mm miniatures is best suited for SYW Saxon infantry ? I will buy the miniatures from Old Glory or Blue Moon 15mm SYW range, but none of them do Saxons. So my plan is to buy either Austrian german infantry or Hanoverian/British infantry. But which of them is best suited as Saxon infantry ? grateful for any suggestions. Cheers Mike |

If going for early war Saxons, I'd use Prussians. But if going post-Pirna, then that's a murkier story. I'd probably have to use Austrians because of the grenadier bearskin. Most of these have been painted on my blog nigbilpainter.blogspot.fr and look under the index on the right hand side where there are 19 entries. |

I think Lancashire Games do Saxons for SYW. link I have a few of them, still unpainted sadly. From memory (currently buried in my lead pile) they are a little bit smaller than OG, but not ridiculously so. |

What de Ligne said. 15 mm lets you get away with a lot of things, but for the grenadier mitres you definitely need Prussians, even if that means fudging the cuff shape. I don't have any OG Russians, but perhaps they could actually solve the issue? For the Saxons in French service from 1758, Austrians are more plausible: The bearskins only came in during the last year of the war, but the men had been reclothed in Austria before marching off to the Rhine, so an Austrian cut is most likely. Actually, from 1760 their uniforms were so ragged that most wore civilian smocks to hide them, but I don't think anyone manufactures those. Mind you, AWI militia might do from three feet away… |

Many thanks de Ligne, what an amazing collection you have very impressive, and very informative site, had no idea that the saxon grenadiers did use bearskins caps late in the war. thanks for the tip, steamingdave47 And many thanks Musketier, shell definitely take a closer look at OG russians. Would Austrian dragooner pass for saxon Chevauxlegers ? Cheers Mike |
