I thought that Valkyries had winged horses, not wings themselves. But yeah, not my take on a standard Valkyrie. |

Nothing Nordic on that figure, more of a fantasy warrior. |

I see no wings on her. Nevertheless she IS closer to what the real Valkyries of legend were depicted. They were not nice creatures, nor particularly beautiful. In fact they had more in common with the harpies of Greek mythology than nymphs. I don't know if it's the light the figure is photographed under, giving it a greenish cast, but it's very good, even though I would not like to go out on a date with one of them. |

I disagree (your description corresponds better to the Christain demonized vision of the Morrigan): Valkyries are described as comely young women 'white skinned under the helmet' (Helgakviða Hjörvarðssonar) with (blooded) mail shirt and carrying a spear 'wearing helmets at Himingvani [came the valkyries]. Their byrnies were drenched in blood and rays shone from their spears' (Helgakviða Hundingsbana I). In the Sigrdrífumál Sigrdrífa (Brynhildr in the Prose Edda) appears a fully armed female warrior. In the Hákonarmál the valkyries are described as sitting 'high-hearted on horseback', wearing helmets, carrying shields and that the horses wisely bore them. Their horses just like Sleipnir fly without wings; in the Njáls saga they are unsaddled 'start we swiftly with steeds unsaddled—hence to battle with brandished swords! Thus they appear basically as female Vikings (historical ones, without 'Wagnerian' horned / winged helmets). Something along the lines of
