Well, something of a (very, very) lazy person's question: what manufacturers are out there that make army deals in 28mm? I know Newline has some for early Mesopotamia and Egypt, Curtey's has some for their ancient Chinese range. Basically I've spent weeks messing about with army lists when it comes to ancients, and I'd just like a good mix of figures for something – either Chariot Wars sorts or Alexander's Successors – to get started on painting. I've been hemming and hawing in particular over a Pontic Hail Caesar force since December, but really I have no idea what they'd look like and it's been hard working up the visual inspiration to be motivated. I've got a unit of 24 1st Corps Thureophoroi that'll pull some kind of duty in whatever I wind up doing. Thanks all. |

It is a long tim since I ordered a armie from the but irregularminiatures.co.uk army packs and battle packs used to be my usual way of starting a new period. The armies were generally a good balanced mix. It's been a long time since I ordered from them but I don't think things have changed. x42 |

Longstrider, What rule set are you thinking of? I ask because "army size" varies massively from rule set to rule set. For example an "army" for "DBA" can be smaller than a single unit for rules like "Hail Caesar". One suggestion that I will offer is to check out the companies that make "hard plastic" 28mm figures. They can be a little fiddly gluing them together, but they save a great deal on average figure cost and they do look good. -- Jeff

I'll check out Irregular. And I'm thinking Hail Caesar eventually, but I'm happy with 'armies' of most sizes really, as long as they're a representative mix. I really do like the hard plastic stuff Jeff, but I've just gone through assembling 100+ infantry and 40+ horse for Saga and some fantasy stuff from Mordheim, so it'd be nice to have something less fiddly for a chance of pace. I've thought about using the Victrix hoplites, Warlord phalangites, barbarian foot and Caesarians-converted-into-imitation-legionaries, with WGF Persians and Numidians to taste to cover a variety of Successors, but the thought of all that piece-by-piece assembly is giving me shakes. :P 1st Corps figures are looking quite nice, I must say. |

Lots of Ancient Army deals on the 1st Corps site, there are even more if you look at the rules section where there are more lists under the Clash of Empires rule set. |

Ooh, thanks! Late Seleucids might be the way to go. Do the 1st Corps figures come with separate weapons, cast-on, or do I have to buy the pikes and spears separately? Ring, closed, or open hands? |

1st Corps sends the spear (metal wire with point) for free when needed. I Always had great service from them! |
