Thought I would post my thoughts here, on creating some Gorn vessels to go with the apparently 1/2500th scale, Johnny Lightning starships, and to help christen the new Scratchbuilding board.

Here's a link to some previous discussions on the subject, in case anyone else is interested as well:

I found a nicely shaped part at home last night, that I can press into service, as either a main-hull section, or modified bow/stern section, on either an older, or newer style Gorn vessel (it's not round, but is otherwise about the right proportion in terms of length, width, and thickness, as well as being nicely beveled in shape).

I'll keep that secret for now, and hope to get to the craft store sometime in the next few days, in order to acquire more, suitable parts.

Feel free to join in on the discussion, to add in any other Star Trek vessel designs you've done in this scale, or are considering doing, as well.

My next thought is converting a JL Fed Cruiser into a Destroyer, if I can find one for a reasonable price, or if not, then scratch-building one of those, too. I must admit though, that scratch-building a Fed ship appears to be a lot more work, due to its much more complex shape.

The AMT Cadet kits are the way to go… you get a Rom Warbird, Klingon D-7 and a Fed Cruiser for about $14. USD Lots of conversion potential, and the plastic of the kits is easier to work with.

This is a conversion from the AMT CA:

Here's a JL and an AMT CA side by side:

And an AMT CA to DD conversion.

Excellent tip and pics.

Thanks for sharing them.

The AMT vessels appear to match perfectly, and have a lot more detailing as well, which is a plus too.

Can't beat the price, either.

Detail is about the same. All the saucer lines are hand-drawn.

…to help christen the new Scratchbuilding board.

WELL, the fellow that beat the board announcement by a second got that honor. ;->=

However, you have added luster to the event!

Yours are to be congratulated, with the limited access to Gorn.

VSB's are SO pretty, and worthy of all the praise Leland has been heaping on him.

Just, both a bit big for most of my gaming.

for about $14 USD

Actually, I think they are priced at $20 USD, but with a 40% off coupon, $12 USD is VERY reasonable! I just wish I could find the Cadet three Enterprises again.

Between the two kits, you can bash a heck of a lot of interesting things, including never modeled FASA ships.

I bought three boxes of TOS ships on eBay a couple weeks back at 13.59 each, with cheap shipping.

auction

If the link does not work, look for cadet 1/2500 and go to Omnimodels.

The 3-enterprise set is also out there on Ebay at reasonable prices. There is a new set with the Cardassian Cruiser and the Defiant as well.

I saw a number of three Enterprise kits on eBay, though those were more expensive.

Worth a look, if you have the funds, I suspect.

@VSB Thanks! I've never seen that particular 'Cadet' box.

Are they the same models that were in the old TOS three ship set? I've still got several of those, but would pop for the new ones if better moulded. Pretty sloppy originals.

@Mako11 Truly, though I was REALLY hoping to see them reappear on the shelves where I first saw 'em, and could use those 40% coupons…
