I have a couple packs of the Blue Moon 15/18mm FIW Provincial Infantry. Those packs included standard bearers. Unfortunately, I can't find information on what flags British provincial regiments such as the Virginia Regiment carried during the FIW. I would appreciate your help in finding this information. Thank you. Richard

If memory serves me correctly, most of them didn't carry them in the field.

caubeen, this is wonderful! Thank you very much. Pizza grenadier, the only flags shown on the link provided by cabin is for the Virginia regiment. Thank you both… you have been a great help! Richard

Here's an old TMP thread that covered this subject a few years ago:

The embedded links seem still to be good.

Not much is known for certain about Provincial flags. The reconstructions are mostly conjectural. I'll add my speculation to the pile:

Provincial officers tried hard to convince everyone they were 'real' soldiers (and deserved King's commissions) so probably kept as close to British Army regulations as they could for their units' flags.

You can't go too far wrong with a big Grand Union flag, with a wreath and some inscription in the middle.

At the time of the AWI, many Provincial units carried colors like a British Regimental standard, with a Union canton and a solid field, perhaps of the unit's facing color. Standards of this type are also likely for the F&IW.

IF they carried flags, provincial regiments would follow British practice regarding facings. That's a big IF.

As Zippy said, provincial officers would be "more British than the British".

So, I actually had another question, War in 15, I hope you don't mind if I add it. Would a provincial regiment carry just one flag? It seems unlikely to me that a non-British army unit would be allowed to carry the King's colors, but this is just speculation.
