I have posted an 8-page PDF file of an article that I wrote on the Philadelphia Campaign of 1777 for the AWI. Click on the link below to take you to the rules and articles page on the new Fife & Drum website.

This is just the first of many more informational PDFs that I will be posting on the web site. There will be things such as uniform painting guides, war-game scenarios, historical articles, "How To Do It" articles and much more.

8 Pages and 17mb – that's quite a PDF.

Looks very nice, thanks. Just the sort of thing a newcomer needs.

Is there a way to compress the file to a smaller size, or is it just a matter of cutting out a few more pictures? My other thought was to divide the PDF into a Part I and a Part II. I'm kind of new at these things.

Good for you, Jim. I'm really looking forward to reading the article, as I am way more versed in the Southern Campaign than I am in the Philly Campaign.
I know how much effort it takes to keep the website running with fresh material.

If it make you feel any bettter, I don't know squat about PDF's either.

Best of luck.

I am looking forward to reading your writings on SYW…!!!

I think it's the photos…try using photos of lower resolution to begin with, before you attempt reducing their number.

Good idea Ioannis , I think that you zeroed in on the reason why the file is so large. Thanks.

Black and white photos will help. IMO better that than tiny colour ones

I have been able to shrink the pdf down to a more managable 792KB file size, courtesy of Henry Hyde (bless him)and Acrobat Pro. So this evening I will upload the smaller file and delete the 17MB behemoth.

For online stuff, get the photos down to 72 dpi. Denser detail than that is lost on viewers. The denser mode is for people who want to blow the pictures up without losing detail.

Looking forward to reading your work.

Hi Jim,

Thank you for sharing this with us, even if the PDF is 17 megs!

Getting "404 – Page not found"

Guthroth19 Feb 2015 4:27 a.m. PST

Yes, we need the small file please

Shanhoplite19 Feb 2015 7:08 a.m. PST

It might be a bit late to chime in, but I downloaded the large file with the color photos, and I really liked it!

Maybe it is possible to host both small and large versions?

Another 404 response.

It _was_ there….

This probably stems from when I replaced the large file with the smaller file last evening. I will look at it again tonight and fix the problem.

It seems to be working OK for me now. I was able to download in both my iPad and from my desktop PC. The link in my first thread posting appears to be dead. Try the new link below and it should work.

Here is a refreshed link to the page that has the downloads.

Yes, that works.

Thanks.

Wondering if you make casualty figures? I need some for my games to show as disorder markers.

We have a generic casualty figure laying face down that can be painted in any country's livery. I don't advertise it because there is not a lot of demand for casualties. We also have a wounded horse, laying on its side.

I'm surprised that you don't get many requests for casualties as I always see someone on here looking for them including myself.

I think that casualty figures are one of those things that people say they want, but never buy them.

Disco Joe22 Feb 2015 4:58 p.m. PST

DAF, I agree with you. I don't like or buy casualty figures.

ScottS22 Feb 2015 7:24 p.m. PST

It takes me long enough to paint "live" soldiers; I don't need to paint dead ones as well.
