<RANT> A distributor is a business that sells to retailers. A retailer sells to the end user (in our case, gamer/hobbyist). Asking if a maker has a "distributor" when you mean retailer just muddies the waters. If you ask for a distributor it sounds like you are a retailer looking to buy stock. </RANT> |

Generally speaking the maker/manufacturer is also the distributor, unless they are using a common warehouse distributor for their products. Yes, usually a distributor sells to retailers. Some do sell to the public but not often, as they are not set up for these kinds of sales. However some manufacturers are also retailers, Front Rank, Calpe, etc as examples. However they will sell as a maker/distributor to a retailer. Front Ranks and Calpe sell to Triangle Miniatures, a retailer. I will buy from either the manufacturer or the retailer usually depending on currency exchange. At present time purchasing Calpe from Triangle Miniatures is more expensive than directly from Peter. I live in Canada and the U.S. dollar is killing us. However the pound is much more favorable. 25 years in logistics…. |

I thought it was a UK thing- they use 'distributor' where the US uses 'retailer', mostly because the UK isn't large enough to need a large distribution network. Rich |

Not country specific so far as I can tell. American ask "does The Misery Loves Co. have a US distributor" and what they mean is US retailer. From UK members I often hear "stockist" which I know is Brenglish for retailer (elevator/lift, crapper/loo). |
