Well, I suppose I can iron it … but should I iron it? I got two roughly 1mx1m vinyl fabric remnants for $1 USD each at Hancock Fabrics on Saturday, but they have folds in them. So can I iron them out without destroying the fabric/texture, or should I just be patient and wait for them to flatten out by lying down? |

Put a towel over it and iron from the back side |

Damp towel over the back side and steam out the folds. But if you are married do it in secret or you will have baskets of ironing appear…. |

Maybe not. Depends on how it goes. It might lead to a lifetime ban. |

Thanks. Will do. This is upholstery vinyl, so it has batting on the back. I think I'll try it without the towel. But if you are married do it in secret or you will have baskets of ironing appear… I am married. And I do the ironing. We actually bought me a portable ironing board at Hancock, too, to go with the new house (our old one was installed in the wall of the laundry room). This is basically a result of skill level taking care of my uniforms, and SWMBO's fear of messing up a uniform. I just needed some advice as, surprisingly, the US Navy doesn't have a vinyl uniform. |

@etotheipi, I don't know about you but my experience with Certified Navy Twill was that it was about as close to vinyl and you got the bonus of it snagging on anything. Boy did I hate that uniform. Even in my boxing weight days you looked like you were wearing a sack of potatoes. Good luck with the ironing. |

If you have time, hang it. Use heavy wood clamps on either side, and hang it somewhere or drape over the dining room table… |

Ironing the back side worked like a champ. They are now lying down flat on the dining room table, ready for a little detailing and the hazards of war. Thanks again, all. |

Depends on whether you want to buy your wife a new iron… |
