"Strike Squads form the core of the Concord Combined Command' s armed forces wherever they fight from the embittered battlefields of broken worlds to primeval jungles and the depths of space. The iconic image of the armoured Strike Trooper is both feared and admired throughout the Antarean universe, both as the armed champions of peace and order, and the merciless agents of the Integrated Machine Intelligence – IMTel – that watches, protects and ultimately controls the thousands of worlds of the Concord. The IMTel designates recruits for the Concord's armed forces, benignantly selecting only those in whose best interests it is to be so chosen – directing their fate as it directs that of untold billions of lives in a society where humans are freed from the brutal labour of decision-making and overbearing tyranny of free choice…" link See here link Also… Concord Strike Force starter army deal

Been waiting to see these. That said, the Concord strike me as the "plain vanilla" faction of Beyond the Gates of Antares. What I'm really looking forward to is the Isorians. Judging by the BtGoA cover, they look quite cool and unique. At least, I'm assuming the guy in the green quasi-organic-looking armour is an Isorian:

Hmmm…'Vanilla' is right. And here I was, looking forward to the Concord. Not that they're bad, but I'm kinda underwhelmed. |

By the way, does anyone know if the figures are going to be cheaper once playtesting is over? £70.00 GBP for that starter army deal feels a bit steep. The introduction text in the Beta playtest rulebook mentions they have plans to make plastics. Here's hoping for plastic Isorians that won't run away with my bank account. |

The Concord previews have been up for a while and the aesthetic is as shown in them: they are definitely the baseline humies for the BtGoA universe. Nothing fantastic but then again, I'm not feeling fantastically impressed by any of the minis shown so far. Perhaps the posthumans will change my mind. As to the pricing, it comes down to ca. £4,375.00 GBP per model, discounting the small drones and the dice. I wouldn't personally say that's steep for metal models even tho it isn't by any means super cheap either. Would rather expect them to go above £5.00 GBP a pop in smaller packages however. |

For a game in which a typical force consists of 30-50 models, most being nondescript identical grunts, I personally think £4.00 GBP-5 per model is fairly steep. It may not be by the standards of games like Infinity, but I don't consider BtGoA to be in that category. In games like Infinity most figures are more individualistic (and more "artistically" sculpted) and forces are smaller. I'm more inclined to compare the BtGoA range with ranges like those from Pig Iron, which makes it fairly expensive. Not so expensive as to be unheard of, but still expensive. |

Gotta agree with Rhod. It's one thing to have rather expensive models when you don't have more than 20 on the table and very few duplicates. It's a whole different thing when you have 50+ models per side! |

I already have a high tech human force (mix of Sedition Wars and Mantic Corporation Marines and Rangers) so I'd really be only interested in the mortar team, which I currently lack. I was very interested in this game, but price wise its just not worth it to me and I'm really disappointed by the decision to go all metal, a hard plastic set for each of the races would have made me a regular customer buying muliplte boxes. |

Also take a look at the Mantic enforcer starter set (pre-order at the moment) link 26 figures and 2 Walkers for £20.00 GBP less, as the Concord starter set is £70.00 GBP (£73.00 after pre order). BtGoA seems to me to be a little confused in what it is trying to achieve, price wise its aiming at skirmishes, while it rules are aiming at 30-50+ figures. Frankly there are better looking and cheaper options available for high tech humans. |

I'm really disappointed by the decision to go all metal, a hard plastic set for each of the races would have made me a regular customer buying muliplte boxes. Is it the case that they are going all metal for good, and not just for the current playtest phase? From the Beta Edition rulebook: Plans for the futureWe are working on all of the forces described in the background section as well as a new series of aliens, various vehicles and more drones. We are also planning to make additions to the existing forces that will enable us to build variant armies for the Concord, Isorians and so on. Once we are ready we plan to publish the game as a rulebook and release our first plastic troopers and vehicles. I'm just wondering if you know something I don't. I haven't been following the progress of BtGoA closely until recently. (Here I was thinking I'd given up on 28mm altogether, but nah…) |

The Beta Edition rulebook is probably the only mention i've seen for any plans for plastic troopers….I hope those future plans lead to some actual figures. I probably should have been clearer, I was expecting it would be like the other Warlord ranges, basic plastic infantry boxes with specialist stuff in metal and plastic vehicles. So finding out they had gone all metal (at least so far) was disappointing and killed off a lot of my interest. |
