"The Army has turned down Beretta's pitch to upgrade the M9 as the service continues its search for a new pistol.

Beretta proposed to fill out current M9 orders with the M9A3, which offers new earth-tone colors, an accessory rail, beveled sand-resistant magazine, threaded barrel for suppressors, and adjustable handle for different hand sizes.

A good sign they're probably going for a heavier caliber.

I've carried 9mm, .40 cal and now a .45 S&W. I really liked my .40 and also very much enjoy the .45, but the 9mm just didn't have the stopping power we needed.

I do admit we were issued a crap round for the 9mm, but it a small round.

I understand the selection was made some time ago. However, there is much consternation over the selection of the camo pattern that it will be painted in. LOL!

I am reminded of the day back in the mid 80's when they pulled one of my guys to go TDY to test the 9mm. None of the guys I knew that tested it had anything positive or decent to say…but the army went with it anyway because "Everyone else is doing 9mm and 9mm is what all the cool euro kids have"….
Now after 20 odd years we are coming back to .45?….

I'd like to find the guys that signed off 20 years earlier on the 9mm and say "Well…as a result of your incompetence…you now owe the govt…xxxxx dollars…"

The good thing that came out of it was I picked up 8 spare .45 mags that my unit had extra. Other than that a complete waste of time and resources. IMHO
