I was just flipping through AK47 Republic and had an insight: the Chain Reaction system by Two Hour Wargames seems like a perfect fit for African Wars. Each faction type (religious movement, dictatorship, Western client forces) could have its own reaction table—maybe religious movements would respond to enemy fire by charging forward with machetes for example. Each stand of 15mm infantry would be treated as a single Grunt in the rules. Has anyone thought about doing this before? |

It has been (sort of) done before. The 1st edition of 5150 had separate reaction tables for each race type. If it can be done in 5150, I can't see why it wouldn't work for Chain Reaction. |

Writing the tables would be a pain but there's no reason it couldn't work just fine. It'd be fun to have a game where each force actually reacts differently. As Norrins says, 5150 used to do this though they never went far enough. |

No bites? I think it needs vigorous playtesting, but am I on the right track? Any advice? How would you theme Tribal armies and Warlord armies? |

I play African wars using AK47 Republic in 6mm and Chain Reaction in 25mm. There are aspects of both rule sets that are worth transplanting so I think you are onto something. Some play testing would be a good idea. (FYI the THW Swordplay rules include different reaction tables for different troop types based on their fighting styles). |
