Let's do this one as well….. As "1066 And All That" brilliantly described it: Royalists – wrong but romantic Parliamentarians – right but repulsive So? Which do you prefer? |

And another for the King. I've always quite liked Charles, and though admittedly it has nothing to do with the rights or wrongs of the case, the man certainly died bravely. |

The King, perhaps a return to the "Divine right of Kings" wouldn't be a bad thing now. Get some nice new red tunics, very long bayonets and get the Empire going again. Start with somewhere nice, Hawaii perhaps!😁 |

I am glad Parliament won – as it gives us the timeline we have enjoyed … as for sides? No, they were all decent Englishmen … Phil |
forrester | 13 Feb 2015 5:48 a.m. PST |
It's almost impossible to "take sides" after several centuries of taking constitutional monarchy for granted, and when current political parties don't correspond with the divisions of the time. It was probably a case of being the right result at the time, but with much nastiness to achieve it, and followed, eventually, by a swing back to a middle ground that probably wouldn't have happened otherwise. |

There was an English Civil War? Okay, I did know that (but not much more, being an American,) but my preference is neither. I avoid this family squabble the way a cop wants to avoid a "domestic violence" call – both sides will be against you when you show up. Civil Wars are never nice no matter how the winner paints the end result… |
