Hi,

Would like to paint one of my platoons for FOW as a LW Hermann Goring platoon. The color mentioned in the Osprey book I have that it has more of a brown hue to it than the regular German field grey color. What color should I use?

Thanks

Maybe just normal field gray with a light brown wash?

Many late war feldgrau wool uniforms had a brownish tint as the quality of the wool declined. I don't think HG had special brownish uniforms.

Thanks Martin for the reply,

I block paint after a wash of black (pretty heavy wash). I'll try your suggestion after my regular method and see how I like it. But am really looking for a paint color to use. My OCD is kicking in big time.

As for LW uniforms in general (probably applies to all the war), the color was all over the map with the different suppliers and their interpretations of field grey.

FYI, I just finished a Sturm Company in which I used 6 different variations of field grey, Luftwaffe blue (2 shades), the grey the mountain troops used, and finally the LW tropical color used in Italy, also splinter and autumn oak leaf camo. The helmets were all over the map, shades of grey, dark green, and even a handful of pre-war Luftwaffe robin blue. Saw that one on a site selling German WWII helmets. It was very rare and going for a lot. Once again my OCD kicked in for that project. I figure it is the last few months of the war and anything goes when it came to clothing, basically look what I found and need. Not historically accurate but I had fun painting and doing the research.

My next company will stick with only one color each for uniform, helmet, boots, webbing, and accessories. Will focus OCD for that project.
