I've been (and continue to be) working on an 1809 French army for the battle of Talavera in Spain 1809, and thought I'd share my progress with TMP. xccamminiatures.blogspot.co.uk More images are available on my Blog, Regards, xccam |

Just peeked at your blog. Your painting is great! I can't believe these are 10mm figures. A 'follower' link on your blog would be useful. |

Thank you for the comments! I have attempted to add a follow box in the top right, although I'm not really sure if I've been successful, I'm not very good at this whole blogging thing! |

You wrote in the blog: "The General is from the old Peninsular French Pendraken range, and I picked him up just to see how he fits in with the new range which is as of yet devoid of Generals. Sadly both him and his horse seem extremely small and slender and may stick out too much if placed near the other members of the army. I'm still tempted to mount him alone on a base to represent 1 of the 2 minor Generals the Grande Armee rules allow the French to include during the Talavera scenario. Mounted on his own he may be inconspicuous in his smallness." The old Peninsular range from Pendraken are a little on the small side. The same is true of GHQ and Bend Sinister that are very small. In addition, GHQ have very deep horse bases, brittle swords and bendy muskets. I find their figures are, with a few exceptions, not really suitable for my needs and am in the process of replacing them. The newer Pendraken and MM figures are compatible MM mounted officers will probably give you the variation that you need. |

very nice ! i see on your blog you've had some trouble finding varnish for your troops . try an artists supply store , i use the Liquitex brand but that may not be available in your area , all other paint suppliers will make their own version . i got 473 ml for about the price of 3 or 4 of those pots of GW varnish you bought :) stirred , not shaken is the rule for varnish , you'll get unremovable air bubbles if you shake it and you'll have to let the bottle of varnish sit for a week to get rid of them .don't ask me how i know this ! |

For a matt varnish I use Windsor & Newton Galeria Artists varnish. It should be available in all decent hobby shops and artists stores. |

Cheers for the varnish comments lads, I've got some at the moment but I'll be sure to look out for those mentioned when I need more. @138SquadronRAF I've just received eMail conformation that my MM Spanish (Representing King Joseph Bonaparte's contingent) have been posted, so I will get to see the size comparison once they arrive, here's hoping they match up well, although I have heard they are slightly larger than Pendraken sculpts. Thank you for the advice though! |

Very nice collection. If I hadn't got loads of 15mm and 6mm Napoleonics I would be buying 10mm. It's a great size, I already have WSS, League of Augsburg , Crimean, Medieval and Dark Age armies in 10mm. Re Jim's suggestion of using Windsor and Newton Galleria varnish, it is good stuff and easily available, but be careful if you use acrylic inks. I find that it can re-dissolve these inks. Possibly this will not happen if you have a good long drying time for the inks. |

As for Pendraken and MM figures, I think the MM are a little bulkier, but this is only based on the Crimean War figures I have, so it may not be true for all ranges. The new LoA range of cavalry from Pendraken are significantly bigger than the old range, but they are brilliant sculpts. |

Good work, Conor! There's a modified MM French General on my 1809 Blog here: link You can see him based and before conversion in other posts. You can also see him compared to other 10mm French generals on this blog page: link I use Vallejo varnish. It has no problem with inks. link Hope this helps. Cheers, Michael |

Thanks for the comments there guys. The MM sculpts seem to fit right in next to the Pendrakens, and I've painted up a base of them.

Nice work. Are you doing 2 bases per cavalry unit? 10mm are an interesting challenge to paint. I start to get frustrated but then I realise I've finished a brigade in the time it takes to paint a 28mm battalion… |

@ Bandolier Yeah I'm basing all units on 60mmx30mm bases, which means for games such as Blucher and GA I can stck them up for 60x60 bases and use 60mm as the BW for game measurement |

They look super – but I can't see how to follow your blog (versus following you – which sounds a bit pervy to this oldtimer!). |

Thank you. I'm afraid I have no idea how to make my blog followable, I am not very well versed in the 'blogosphere'. |
