With all the new 28mm Napoleonic figures that have been released over the last several years by the likes of Perry, Warlord, Victrix, ect I was wondering if new gamers to 28mm Napoleonics are still buying the original 28mm Old Glory figures to start their armies? I seem not to hear much about the figures any more. Same for their 2nd edition line. I'm not a new Napoleonic gamer by any means, but I still like the look of the figures. There are some I do not like, such as the Prussians, but we cannot have everything I guess. LOL. I always recommend them, especially at such a good price. I assume they are still good sellers to established gamers? Just wondering about new gamers. |

I like their 28mm Russians, they're pretty well sculpted. |

I bought a bunch of Old Glory minis when I moved up to 28mm two years ago. While the sculpts May not be to the standard of some other manufacturers, they paint up well and you can't beat the price. |

Yes – I have lots of War of 1812, British Peninsular and some French – all old sculpts and love them. |

I'm not a new gamer, but OG are the mainstay of my British and Austrian infantry forces, and make up about half my French infantry. They are still good figs and are a good value way to build a middling to large size force. And yes, I'm still buying them. |

I think that the OG Army card makes them a good choice for cheap metals. |

Four of us decided to do a refight of d'Erlon's attack at Waterloo….over 1200 figures. We bought virtually all of them from Old Glory….can't beat the Old Glory Army deal. |

IS there a good dealer of OG minis in Europe? Shipping cost from US to Sweden sort of negate low prices when I can order from Warlord with free shipping. |
Miniatureships | 12 Feb 2015 4:59 a.m. PST |
Skatey, You can contact Old Glory direct and find out how many figures can go in a flat rate box and get the price of shipping that way. The only other problem that some overseas buyers have is related to their customs charges on figures. The other option is to contact Old Glory UK and find out what Andy sells his figures for and the cost of shipping from UK. The only difference is that Andy does not offer the Army Card deals. I know there are gamers in Australia and New Zealand that buy a lot of Old Glory from the US. They usually contact Old Glory via email listing what they want and how much the shipping will be. Old Glory emails them back with the information and they decide if they will purchase. |

You cannot beat their prices if you have their Old Glory Army card and painted nicely, their figures look great. Even if you are one of the one that don't like the sculpts, they look amazing enmasse. If you are on a budget and want to game Napoleonics in 25/28mm you have to consider Old Glory |

If I was going to start a 25mm army, OG would be the first place I stopped. You simply can't get metal figures any cheaper, which is important when you need hundreds of them. There are better figures out there but, as soon as you take them away from your eye and put them on the table, they all look the same. If all I was doing was skirmish games, I would go for the smaller multi-pose packs of other manufacturers. |

It depends on what period you choose from the many that they do have. Some are very old sculpts (less quality and closer to 25mm) and others are updated and closer to 28mm. Some series, like the War of 1812 series are outstanding sculpts and compare well to Knuckleduster , Brigade Games Perry, Elite and Front Rank. |

Here you go, Skatey: oldgloryuk.com If you Phone Andy for an order, you can have 6 packs for the price of 5 (cheapest is free). |

Nope – US gamers go on about Old Glory ALL the time, how cheap they are etc. But that is only because of their army card discount. I know you can buy from Old Glory UK but the cost seems far higher, understandably so given the additionsl import duties and shipping costs. Not a complaint – just an observation. As a result although I would be tempted to buy the occasional Old Glory pack from UK just for variety, for most of my purchases I will stick with UK manufacturers, and Perry/Warlord/Victrix cover fairly well the periods and armies I am collecting (with the exception of Macedonians). Just my 2pence. James |

Yes, I used them when I started building a 28mm Austrian Army. The infantry was mostly Sash and Saber, but since S&S never completed the range (blast them!) I had to get most of my Austrian cavalry from Old Glory. They are actually very nice figures. |

The advantage of OG figs that never goes out of fashion for the new gamer is the price. Plastics are ok, but some people just prefer metal. |

I am but i do not understand the new range? b.t.w. do not like their grenzers are to small greetings serge joe |
Mister Tibbles | 14 Feb 2015 4:01 p.m. PST |
I am but i do not understand the new range? You mean the 2nd edition? They are very nice, slimmer and less animated to look more like current Perry and others. The line seemed to die shortly after being released (2008-09?) I'd like to see it expanded, but looks like 18mm is the current fashion. I consider the 2nd edition "dead" until we hear otherwise. I am one of those fellows who prefer metal figures. I love their heft and can paint them better. I save plastic for my 1:72 to 1:35 military vehicle/plane modeling. :-) |
serge joe | 15 Feb 2015 4:03 a.m. PST |
And the grenzers and stuff realy 28 mm? greetings serge joe |
1815Guy | 16 Feb 2015 10:56 a.m. PST |
Plastics wherever possible. Fill in the gaps with metals. |
1815Guy | 16 Feb 2015 10:59 a.m. PST |
Just had a look at Old Glory UK, not especially cheap, you have to buy the infantry in 30s and the cavalry in 10s – so lots of waste…… and are they a genuine 25mm? Everything else I have is 28mm. I also like to see what I am getting for my money. OG UK expect one to order blind. Yeah, like that's going to happen. I spend money where there are pictures of the goods! |
Marc the plastics fan | 16 Feb 2015 12:14 p.m. PST |
Sadly, I think whatever love OG 25s have is based on the USA member card which makes them cheap. That scheme was never (as far as I know) available in the UK, and so they are too expensive for the quality. Other, more modern, brands are now available. |
serge joe | 16 Feb 2015 12:29 p.m. PST |
Just give me some 28mm grenzers and i wil show you my money greetings serge joe |

I indeed think most OG buyers are in the US; the figures of UK-OG are too expensive and you can't see the figures as almost no photos exist. Maybe some ranges are reasonable (imho) as early renaissance and maybe WOTR |
TodCreasey | 17 Feb 2015 9:35 a.m. PST |
Napoleonic in general can be crazy expensive in metal – Old Glory is the only affordable to cover the gaps in what is currently available for plastic. A lot of my cavalry and artillery and most of my 1812 Americans are OG. |
