In a quandary ….what models would best portray Forrest's men (or similar mounted Infantry), should I go with dismounted cavalry figures or try and source suitable infantrymen?

These look about right:

You wouldnt be of the 'Federal persuasion' would you? ;-)

Dixon has infantry figures with light equipment that might do.

That was funny. :-)

As to the original post, look at Sash and Saber dismounted confederate cavalry. There is also another unit he made toward the end of last year that I thought might be good. I just forget the name.

What I like about the range is that they mix so well. So many poses and such that you can pick up a bag or two of figures and pick out the best for the unit you are making and anything left over just becomes the generic unit.

He even has dead federals to go with his dead confederates. :-)

Reb, as I am sure you're aware, many of Forrest's men carried infantry style muskets and fought like infantry when dismounted as at Chickamauga. However, I agree that the CS Mounted cav from Sash & Saber have the appropriate look. Perhaps use their skirmishing infantry packs for dismounts. Another idea would be to use Perry plastic cavalry, and remove some infantry muskets from one of the Perry plastic sets, and create slings using foil tape. Remove the carbines and show them riding with slung muskets when mounted.

Sash and Saber seems the way to go …I wanted to avoid the usual sabre-wielding, kepi-wearing (clearly eastern) Reb Cavalry.

ACWBill …I like the idea of mixing in some skirmishing Infantry to bulk out the Dismounted Cavalry, I want to avoid too many men with blanket rolls as I'm assuming they'd leave them attached to the saddle

The owner is Chris Hughes. Perhaps you could contact him and ask if he will put together a pack of skirmishing infantry which do not have the blanket roll.

Awhile back there was a guy who was doing figures for transmississippi (someone finally!). I imagine they would have the kind of western look that I think you're going for. Sadly I don't have a link and can't find them with any search strings I can think of.

Idontbelieveit,

Was it companyd.co.uk?

His company will be featured in an article in Issue 7 of ACW Gamer: The Ezine.

Yes, that's it! Thanks!

ACWBill …thankyou I certainly will, its nice to know there are still some manufacturers out there willing to be flexible.

CompanyD.co.uk ….do Unionist Missouri Militia and Guerilla's, thought they might add some 'colour' to my projected Shelby's Iron Brigade project.

Dixon has a very nice range of figs depicting Forrest's men!

Dixon Miniatures have never been a favourite of mine …though the range is possibly the most comprehensive out there? I do have some in my collection ….mainly dead, wounded and stretcher bearers?
