Maybe it's me but looking at the new Calpe site it has figures listed with prices. That's great. However, looking for horses and other figures it states to go to the Veteran's site. That is where the issue lies as the catalog for these has not been updated in some time and the only price update I saw was for almost 2 years ago on the "news" link. I know he is a 1 man operation, and I love the figures, but what exactly are his prices and are packs different than ordering an individual figures or groups there of. Seems this gets a bit confusing when looking to order. I live in USA by the way, and I do know about Triangle miniatures but don't see any discounts for large orders. |

Here's the text of an e-mail Peter sent to me last June. I'm guessing prices are the same? I've had a look at your order and noticed that you've used an old price reference. Figures are now £1.15 GBP each and horses are £1.60 GBP each. This means that the 4 man command packs are now £11.00 GBP each. On the good side though there is a 10% discount on orders of this size so the difference in price between what you calculated and what you'll pay will not be that great. Have a think about it and please confirm that you still want to go ahead with your order. The price increase was forced on me by the rising price of the metal itself. |

I can only say that you get what you pay for. If you think about the time you will spend on the prep, painting and basing of these figures….and think what your own free time is worth, by the hour…..the last thing to economise on is the figure itself. Calpe, Perry, Westfalia, Front Rank (if you pick and choose though, in their case) will repay whatever you have invested. Importing is the pain, I admit. Outside our EU, there will be some kind of national tax to pay. So the postal system will not deliver. You go to collect from them, you pay the tax to them and their handling charge is way higher than anything else. My Eureka Garde du Corps from OZ cost a fortune, but our Australian cousins saw little of it! The taxman did……. |

I agree with Deadhead, Calpe are some of the finest figures out there. I have approximately 1000 of them, 600+ painted and they are still a joy to paint. Well worth the money. However I will advise you order in smaller lots so customs doesn't ding you. I ordered £150.00 GBP of figures and got nailed $78.00 USD is customs and duties. I live in Canada. |

Peter's prices are fine for the quality of figures that you get. Best Napoleonics you can buy. Cheers, Paul |

I would pay more than that if he'd do Russians… |

Alec Brown at Front Rank is currently doing Russian "Reinforcement Packs". frontrank.com/news These are, in fact, a re-do of his Napoleonics, +15-20 years of experience & technology improvement. Since Calpe are designed to mesh with Front Rank, these might be of interest to you. |

Reinforcement pack are a joy. Anatomically far better proportioned than their predecessors (which are great castings, but a bit "stocky") |

Do you think there will ever be Calpe British? I live in hope |

Do you think there will ever be Calpe British? I wouldn't hold my breath. Calpe was created to fill holes in Front Rank's Prussian line. Since FR has released a pile of new Brits (which are wonderful), there's no reason for Calpe to. But then again he might get a wild hair and do them for no other reason than he wants to. |

The world is already awash with 28mm Brits--Russians not so much. :) |

Excerpt from Calpe website: Seems some more French and Saxons are coming. You will see that I have updated the website with new releases. This release of figures is really two releases in one as a projected release date in September came and went with no figures released due to family life and pressure of work. Some of the more determined of you may already have some of the new packs, as they have been available since September but I'm sure that there will be something new for most of you. The new command packs for the march-attack French are based on the Dresden Manuscript. These are drawings by an eye witness of the garrison in Dresden in 1813. Yves Martin kindly sent me scans of the manuscript last year. Little details such as the drum slings (the straps that hang beneath the drum) and the Sapper's covered bearskin with hairy tufts sticking out of the bottom, are all taken from this source. You will notice that the battalion command packs have no photos attached to them at present. The reason for this is that I forgot the finial (the spearpoint that tops the flagpole) and did not spot it until I got to the point of undercoating the battalion command packs for the photos. The figures themselves are complete but I have had to make the finials and this will delay the release of these packs for a couple of weeks. There will be two types of finials available, the pre 1812 finial, which looked like a fat bellied spearpoint; and the post 1812 finial which was a three pointed spearpoint. In 1813 the former was predominant as most regiment did not bother to change them. During the 'Hundred Days,' however, it was the three pointed finial that was used by most regiments. The French Light infantry mounted officers in shakos pack is also complete but the production moulds for these remain to be made. There are several new Saxon packs as well awaiting production moulds. As a result of this I plan to have a follow-up release in a few weeks with the packs I have just mentioned. These releases more or less complete the French march-attack set. I plan to add a few more packs – principally the casualty packs, both standing and prone – but also some mounted officers in bicorns, as well as a second headquarters pack, also in bicorns. I will then sculpt some packs of light infantry command elements so that this set of figures can be used to represent light infantry regiments. Work on the Saxons will also continue as I am keen to paint some battalions for my own collection. My plan is to finish the Saxon advancing set early next year so that I can then concentrate on the gunners for both the French and the Saxon artillery. Thanks Peter |
