Recently outlaid some cash to get a plastic Agema Roman army. My thought that this could be used for all of the Punic era wars? Further is it feasible to use warlord Greeks as Carthaginian foot? |

They're good for Punic Wars 2 and 3. With the Carthaginians, no. They had a very different look to them, but there are some plastic kits in the works from Victrix. |

Though note that in the First Roman War, the Carthaginians did use quite a few Greek mercenaries. |

They certainly did. Even had to fight them after the war, owing large chunks of readies to several thousand well armed Greeks who want their pay isn't a great position to be in. |

On another minor note, it's generally said that the Velites skirmishers are first documented in c.211 BC (mid-2nd War). I personally think that to be mentioned there they must have pre-existed, maybe even a few years earlier. You can probably play them any 2nd war battle without anyone noticing or even giving it a second thought. |

Hi Slappy, You should be able to use our figures for the First Punic War too. It's an interesting point on Velites – they do get mentioned in 211 for the first time, and the performance of Roman light infantry improves significantly once the Velites are on the scene. It may be that the Romans were still using the older Leves as light troops at the start of the 2nd Punic War, but they performed so poorly against Hannibal's troops that something had to be done, hence they were rearmed. No one I've played has ever questioned there use at any point for the 2nd War though! Cheers Greg Agema Miniatures |
