For those interested a summary of Warclouds 15mm DBA competition is on line. The event drew 12 players and 24 armies for six rounds of gaming using the latest version of the rules.
A few additional photos and a list of armies can be found here: link |

I really wish Australia had a healthy DBA scene like NZ… |

Where in Australia are you based? I believe Canberra has a strong DBA player base. Interestingly though one of the players was from Australia and he travelled over especially. |

Sydney. There's a comp coming up near me, and when I went to check the details on a web forum the TO was saying it's a 2.2 event, and that he's happy to explain why 3.0 is a poor game. The attitude alone turned me right off participating. |

That is very unfortunate. The Australian player who travelled over is from Sydney. I believe there are a few of them playing DBA 3.0 in Penrith. I'm imagine that soon people will move to the current version of the rules. Perhaps it is just a local thing, or a short term transition. I believe Canberra are having a DBA 3.0 competition in a couple of months. |

McWong73, I went looking for the Canberra event I mentioned. It is on the 31st May. Details can be found here: link I hope this is of some use. Alternately there is a DBA 3.0 event planned for Easter in Auckland New Zealand. Just a short flight from Sydney… |

Yeah, I'm far more interested in 3.0 than 2.2. Chances are good that I'll pop over, already done that for FoW events. Thanks for the link too. |

Would be great to see you for the May comp McWong. It's a great venue, and there will be a few Sydney guys there I believe. Don't let the Sydney TO put you off, I bet I could name him. First name start with an 'S' by any chance? |

Initials are AW. This is his response to people asking why 2.2 and not 3.0 I am quite happy to discuss at the tournament the inferiority of 3, the process by which it was developed, and other related topics. Its exponents are largely those that play 4 new rules sets a year and those who believe everything Phil Barker does is better than what went before it. I will stick with 2.2 and those who play it week in week out. I found that attitude to be quite insulting, especially as someone who has just picked up the game after a nearly twenty year absence. First time I've actually paid attention to the forum chatter in Australia for DBA, and if this is the sort of personality I can expect to find here I'm likely to just head to NZ for comps. I would have accepted the argument that 3.0 is new, not many copies etc (even though I've had mine since November). But it's pretty clear this idiot doesn't want new people to get in the way of gaming with his mates. |

There's a few members in my club sticking to that 2.2 line. Luckily it doesn't stop working so they keep playing it but I'm guessing most everything will move to 3.0 soon. I was almost going to buy DBA 3 to troll him when I saw he already had a copy. Some are still convinced that 3.0 wasn't needed and doesn't solve anything; I'd argue it solves the actual availability or rules issue which is the best thing to help a game grow. I think there were only 12 or so for CanCon so DBA needs a shot in the arm. |

It brings attention to the game. I've been on the fence with 2.2 in the past due to my gaming time being dedicated to other games. Now that I've both the time and inclination to dive into dba (got four bbdba armies in the painting production l8ne) I was hoping to tap into whatever scene existed in Sydney. But with the above attitude being my first encounter with the Sydney scene, I'm now looking to Canberra and NZ. For DBA in Sydney, who needs enemies with friends like these. |

By way of clarification I personally expect the Auckland DBA event over Easter to be small. Auckland has struggled to motivate players to consistently play despite the best efforts of several stalwarts. You should be aware of this if planning to attend. |

At this stage work and family are taking up that time. Can you recommend other events? Fully understand that DBA comps can be small affairs. |

The best I can suggest is to keep an eye on my website. Nothing planned for Christchurch for a few months, but when confirmed I'll publish something. |

There's the Southern Battlegamers in Sylvania but I'm not sure which version they play. DBA 3.0 has been very well received and I don't expect much adherence to older versions in mainstream gaming circles for much longer. It's got me interested in DBA after many years of skirting around the fringes of the DBx world and mainly settling for Hordes Of The Things. Hey, the new cover is hardback and glossier! We play DBA 3.0 in Wollongong if anyone is inclined to make the trip down that way (it's actually not that far if you live on the south side of Sydney). Most Thursday nights at the uni: link |

Glad to see DBA 3.0 catching on. I've been playtesting it for several years and for the record we do play almost every week (I do play other games) and as quite well known critic of WRG7th, DBM 3.0 and some aspects of DBMM, I hardly qualify as Phil Barker appologist (I do think he has designed some great games: DBM prior to 3.0 and DBA 3.0).
