Beautiful pieces!! Great work! |

The long answer to the question posed is… no! :-) Gorgeous painting! |
olicana | 08 Feb 2015 12:07 p.m. PST |
Beautiful figures. And the answer is probably yes, but few of us live that long. I'm up to 180 Landsknechts, which is somewhat less than the 288 Swiss. But I'm working on it (with another 96 in the lead pile). They do look good in big units. Especially if you have a few big units, as this solo re-fight of Marignano shows.
I just wish mine were as well painted and based as yours. Regards, James |

Well the answer is simply no. How can it be anything else. I have the same answer when it comes to that question about Gensdarmes. I just wish I could paint them at the rate I buy them. |

James, your legions were definitely one of the triggers for getting back into the hobby a few years ago. My pace has picked up a bit though my masochism has not; I actually had this unit when I started but my painting style changed so…..I stripped most of them, that was 5 years ago. I've only just got back to the original starting figure;
I think I need help ! it felt quite good to be painting positive figure landsknechts with the last few that I did. These definitely won't be stripped! Phillius, amen to that ! |

Stuart, probably not. But your (and of course James') figures are great. |

How terribly nice of you, old chap. And you are mad! You started again; you sir, are bonkers. |
wrgmr1 | 08 Feb 2015 9:59 p.m. PST |
Stuart, there are many of us who are painters, very few artists. You sir are one of those very rare artists in our community. Exceptional art work!! |

Great figures! As someone who is getting into this era both your work, Olicana and Gonslavo are inspirations. |
Clays Russians | 10 Feb 2015 6:01 a.m. PST |
Crimean war, 1250 total, can you have too many OG thtese |
olicana | 10 Feb 2015 3:56 p.m. PST |
Clays Russians, well…. ARMS RACE!!!!!!! My Crusades collection is a pitiful at 850 figures, but then 300 or so of those are cavalry which take up quite a bit more table space. Here's most of them.
My Wars of the Roses collection is an absolute disgrace at less than 800. Can't remember how many were here, I have so few I'm ashmed to get 'em out that often.
I only have 1405 Italian Wars figures painted, but the project is ongoing. (This was a fair few of them, a little more than half, if memory serves, for a Cerignola 1503 refight.)
But, I'll raise you the Punic War at 2,120. (This is all of them).
Whoops, what am I talking about, I do have a few Prussians, Russians and Austrians for the SYW, but I only have about 2300 all together, as I'm still working on the Austrians (photo of about 1600 Prussians and Russians about to take each other on at Zorndorf).
My other collections are ship and vehicle based, so they hardly count for this kind of brag. Well, I've shown you mine……… |

@Stuart M I'm blown away by the painting – which means questions on how it was done :) How do you do the stripes ? They are perfectly aligned and all black-lined. Thanks John |
Stuart M | 11 Feb 2015 12:07 p.m. PST |
@ Jwebster Hi John, thank you. I have put together a Landsknecht painting guide which you may find of use, it covers how I paint stripes, have a look; link additional to the advice therein I paint the base colours in with a size 1 brush, I then apply a wash and build up the detail with a size 0 brush. The size 1 gives the nice wide stripes to work on to, you've just got to be steady with it. Hope that helps Stuart |

That is a really good site – I like the way it is done through blogspot but actually can be navigated :) Just as soon as I thought I had found a good way to paint I see fantastic results from something else :) I like washes but also starting from white basecoat – I can see how you use the black basecoat for blacklines that then get washed. Very nice Thanks John |

It seems that you NEVER can have too many painted Landsknecht (or other minis), but its pretty easy to have too many to paint… Impressive collections :-) |
