Sense the release of Full Thrust: Project Continuum from the Emerald Coast skunkworks, I have been busy making designs and running a few playtest for my Star Trek miniatures.

link

I want to say thanks to those guys for their work on the publication and to Jim who I emailed insistently with questions. We have made few modification to suit our players, especially the old school ones who consider the More Thrust book released in 1984 a "Advanced rule set."

This is a pictorial recreation of a game that occurred a week ago.

A Klingon task force moves into a Neutral system to exert their influence the "Old Fashion" way with Disruptor diplomacy.

picture

The Federation was at hand to ensure the planet's independence.

picture

The Federation is lead by the Heavy Cruisers Renown and Repulse.

Gentlemen move to your corners

picture

After some time thrusting around, the fleets moved into weapons range. The Klingons, maintaining, a perfect formation, got the better of the first exchange. The USS Repulse was severely mauled by the barrage of disruptor and phaser fire. The Repulse could not bring its heavy photon battery to bear on the cruisers so it unleashed them on a Klingon Frigate. Five Photons later and they all missed! This would be a recurring theme throughout the game.

picture

On the edge of the battle the Frigates pounded each other into oblivion. Two Klingon Frigates destroyed and for one Federation, but the surviving Fed suffered a bridge hit that would take it off the board in a few turns. The Klingon on the far left was the nimble rascal who dodged five Photons torpedoes.

picture

On the following turn the Klingon Cruisers made a sharp turn surprising the Federation destroyers that had moved in to support their heavy brethren. The final placement of ships was not good for the Federation.

picture

The resulting fire from the Kingons was brutal with the destruction of one Destroyer and the other crippled. The Federation did not go quietly into that goodnight, and poured all their fire into the lead Klingon inflicting heavy damage. The lead cruiser suffered a massive system failure which ended in a massive warp core breach.

picture

picture

The crippled destroyer tried to escape but the Klingons were too space wise. It could not get away and was destroyed.

picture

The Klingons then focused on the USS Renown which experienced the same photon targeting problem shown by the Repulse. The damage was piling on and she tried to accelerate to escape the Klingon cruisers. The commander of the Klingon Frigate showed excenlent space navigation skill and rode up the Heavy cruiser's A….Well you know.

picture

Despite the feat of maneuvering the gunner of the Frigate missed with all its shots. That gunner has been executed. A long range shot from the Klingon cruisers caused The Renown to lose more damage control parties and as a result she could not contain her own warp core explosion.

picture

With only the crippled Repulse left the system goes to the Klingon Empire.

Who makes those ships. They are nice. Good AAR as well.

The minis are Irrational Designs, currently in production with Bergstorm. I have some myself, they are *extremely* nice.

Great write up, love it! Did you use the optional rules for reactor core breaches?

Stryderg07 Feb 2015 8:06 p.m. PST

Obviously the Klingons uploaded a computer virus into the Federation's photon targeting systems. Thanks for the write up.

Thanks Wminsing.

Looks like a good game, thanks for letting us see it. :)

Dynaman878908 Feb 2015 7:18 a.m. PST

Excellent! Now I have to get those Irrational minis!

Louie N08 Feb 2015 2:35 p.m. PST

Thank you.

Jim the optional rules were not used here. We just had many 5 and 6 being rolled.

Excellent! Now I have to get those Irrational minis!

Every time I come back to this thread, all I can think is…

Even if they never see the table…

EVEN if they never see a drop of paint…

EVEN IF they never pop out of the wrapping…

I MUST HAVE!!!

*ahem* Time to look up Studio Bergstrom again.

Drew, Drew, Drew…

Great Battle Report, although for the Federation, "Damned Bad Luck"

Thanks for the pics.

Irrational Mini's by Bergstorm hmmm? I have to say, nice, Very nice versions of the "Enterprise / Reliant" style ships.
To be honest, I wondered if these were from another Shapeway designer. They do some Star Trek ships as well. I have been sorely tempted to p.u. some but not sure how they would match up w the ADB ships (especially the Zocchi) Fed. plastics I have.
Plus I have never delt w/ Shapeway so not sure of there models.

wminsing02 Jun 2016 6:48 a.m. PST

Louie N, did you ever post the SSD's you used for this scenario?

-Will

emckinney06 Jun 2016 9:13 a.m. PST

PTG, they are designed by Charles Oines, who sells on Shapeways. link

Louie N09 Jun 2016 2:23 p.m. PST

I have to check to see if I keep the SSDs They went through some mods after the game.

Louie, not that I can find them now, but thought you already shared them. Natch, there've been SO many generous folk here, it's hard to keep track. ;->=

emc, he certainly does, but he's been writing games and designing figs long before 3d printing was a gleam in our eyes…
