Just moved to he Ft. Meade, MD area. Any recommendations on gaming clubs/spots or shops?

Thanks

Sundance06 Feb 2015 7:58 p.m. PST

There's a game store over in Chantilly, VA. I know they do some good stuff on Friday evenings. There's also a club that meets north of Baltimore somewhere. I'm sure they'll be along shortly to introduce themselves. They do a small con in the fall(?) as well. There are probably other clubs, etc., around but those are the two I know about.

Best!

Hi Tcaquati;
In Glen Burnie Maryland, just north of Ft. Meade are two game stores that have a lot going on.
Games and Stuff and Dropzone are the two stores.
What kind of games are you looking for?
More north of Baltimore is the HAWKS game group, they meet up near Aberdeen, MD and do have a Game Convention called Barrage every fall.
Welcome;
Joe

The club north of Baltimore is us, the HAWKs (Harford Area Weekly Kriegspielers). We meet in Perryman in Harford county.
Here's the club's website:

We meet alternate Fridays, with the next meeting on the 13th.
And, we hold an annual regional convention, called Barrage in the early Fall.

Games & Stuff in Glen Burnie is about 15 miles away from Ft Meade and is my primary suggestion for gaming. Great store with lots of selection, huge gaming space, and a lot of folks playing lots of different games. They've held national level competitions on stuff like X-Wing, Flames of War (as best I recall).

My second Glen Burnie recommendation would be Dropzone games. Even more vast gaming space (it used to be the Games Workshop Battle Bunker so it's a warehouse with a ton of converted space). It's more GW/Privateer Press (with occasional games as of last summer) oriented so less variety in playing than Games & Stuff.

If you go to Chantilly's Game Parlor, I'd recommend calling ahead for both gaming schedules AND to confirm their table fees. For awhile (and presumably to this day) they charged a few bucks for you to use their tables for wargaming.

another note for anyone interested;
This weekend (Feb 7,8) at Games and Stuff, Glen Burnie, a Flames of War Kursk Megabattle is being run.
Using GHQ Microarmor instead of 15mm and being played on several tables at once this will be quite a spectacle.
Even if you don't want to play, feel free to stop over on Saturday or Sunday and check it out.
The game started today (Friday)

I will echo the sentiments here. I actually live near Fort Meade, and work there to boot. Games and Stuff is a great store and is also only 15 minutes or so away. It's a really nice store with lots of different games. Dropzone is about 25 minutes away and is really great for Warhammer and Privateer Press games. They do other things as well, but the tends to cater to those groups more. I would also mention there is a gaming store right down the road from Forte Meade, literally mind you, called Cardboard Gaming. It's not as big as the other two, but they do miniature gaming. Feel free to PM if you have any questions. I think the real question is, what kind of gaming are you looking for?

Is Drop zone at old GW HQ in Glen Burnie?

edmuel200007 Feb 2015 4:43 a.m. PST

More local to you than the HAWKS, The Army of Central Maryland gaming group used to be centered in Glenn Burnie. I used to game with them occasionally when I lived in Silver Spring. Not sure if they're still together.

Google them for information.

Dropzone is the old GW HQ.

Tgunner07 Feb 2015 8:45 p.m. PST

They are. They meet Sundays at Games and Stuff.

tcaquati08 Feb 2015 9:37 a.m. PST

Thanks!

I have made it to Games and Stuff and Cardboard Gaming. The Flames of War Kursk Megabattle was interesting and looked great. While I was there a gentlemen was having some poor roles on some captured tanks.

Haven't made it to Dropzone yet.

Now I will need to figure out what kind gaming I want to do. This is the most options I have had in years. Family has been only sporadic opponents.

Are there any DBA players close? I have liked the concept but never had the chance to try it out.

Will have to find out some more info on AoCM.

Thanks again!

Does anyone in the area game in 3mm modern or Sci-fi?

surdu200509 Feb 2015 3:58 a.m. PST

I live near Ft.Meade. What kind of gaming do you do? War hammer? Historical? Board games?

edmuel200009 Feb 2015 10:44 a.m. PST

To get started in DBA, you might start here:

fanaticus.org/DBA

Also, head on out to Cold Wars in Lancaster, PA and connect with the DBA community there (among others):

There are also some groups that do get together at folks houses. There are lots of ancients and renaissance in the area near Games and Stuff. Potomac Wargamers meets once a month and meets in Tysons Corner area.

tcaquati09 Feb 2015 6:56 p.m. PST

I have a large number of fantasy warbands and armies in different states. A good number of clix that are being converted for some superhero(daughters request) and maybe modern/scifi skirmish gaming.

Don't have much in the way of historical currently. I have considered it over the years but never had opponents.

Thanks for the DBA links.

Jefritrout do you know which rules sets they are using? or scale?

Thanks

Deathwing10 Feb 2015 10:14 a.m. PST

I don't do the small scale stuff, but play Songs and Blades of Heroes and always up for Mordheim, Necromunda, that sort of thing. You can email at joseph_mcguireathotmail.com

Where is cardboard gaming?

Hey Jeff. How's things going?

Deathwing10 Feb 2015 12:33 p.m. PST

Cardboard gaming right off Telegraph Road right off 175. If heading from Fort Meade down 175, turn left at the Intersection of Piney Orchard and Telegraph road. It should be on the right I think. It's not too far down. Look for a white building with a green sign.

At Games and Stuff they play 28mm SAGA the last Sunday of the month. We can be talked into Musket and Tomahawk as well. The group in Severna Park plays mostly 15mm, but some 25s and have currently started with L'Art de Guerre, like the last 4 sessions.

You can e-mail at my user name at msn.com.

Mr. Rankin. We are doing just fine. My little one is now in 4th grade if you can believe it. Just got straight A's. The fun part is that she skipped 2 weeks of school to go to Brasil with her mom and still got straight A's. She is now arguing that she should be able to miss 2 weeks of school every quarter. :-)

I do keep meaning to get to Cardboard gaming. Maybe tomorrow on my home from work.

Jeff – Good to hear it. I have two grandaughters now. One is 3 and the other is 1. They think I'm a riot. I don't know why.

Where are you gaming nowadays? AoC or another place? I sometimes go to the PW meetings, but It's 50 miles each way now and i just can't do that every month. So I'm look for some place closer.
