Can anyone recommend a good book on the WAS? I've seen a couple on Amazon, but overall there doesn't seem to be so much on the war as there is on the SYW.

The War of the Austrian Succession by Reid Browning is an excellent read and well worth the money.

Strongly second the Browning book. You can find some WAS scenarios at the Volley and Bayonet page. Each strength point represents 500 troops or 6 guns.

Another vote for Browning. One of the few books I've ever gone back and re-read just because it was so good.

Agreed on the Browning.

Go the this web site and look at the Game Support tab. There is a wealth of information on the WAS that you will never find anywhere else.

YES, that Red Sash documentation is a TRUE treasure trove, especially after reading Browning.

MS Anderson wrote a book similar to Browning, but smaller. Dennis Showalter's bio includes the WAS.

"Fontenoy" by Francis Henry Skrine covers more than just this particular battle and is a good read.

"The Military Life of Frederick the Great" by Chris Duffy is very good in its coverage of the WAS.

"Wild Goose and the Eagle" by Chris Duffy

I will have to check my bookshelves this evening to see if I can turn up some other titles.

Of the books I've seen, the Browning and Anderson titles looked to be the best. From the comments here I'll go with Browning. If I can afford it (and She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed lets me) I'll try to pick up a copy of Duffy. I've got some of his books already, so I have an idea what it'll be like. Many thanks, all.

Final Note: The Red Sash materials are free. I can't recommend them enough.

The RS rules are useful for miniature campaigns too.
