Found this by accident online. Looks pretty good and I might give it a whirl! YouTube link |

A similar idea was published decades ago in White Dwarf for making craters from disposable aluminium pie cups, so its not totally original. |

I agree that it is not a totally original idea – but the effect of these craters is exceptional. thanks for the link. Tony |

I've used foil muffin cups glued to cd's. Works well. |

Another trick is to form the foil over the rim of anything circular then flip over and fill with plaster, peal off the foil and paint. Robert |

I've seen these before and thought they weren't very convincing or durable. I made my own craters recently using appropriate sized mdf bases and acrylic gap filler/sealant (the type that can be painted). Just run a bead of filler around the perimeter of the base then wet a finger and shape the slope. Leave them to dry for a few days then add modelling sand and paint them. |

Thing about this is that it is very easy to be crushed. So while I think it is good you will need to do something to fill in the bottom areas so that it is more durable. Oh and he should have kept the sides ot that pan and use them to create trench walls. |

Looks cool! Thanks for the tip, I'll try it sometimes. |

Actually, an easy way to upgrade it is to both base it on something and to brush on plaster over it and then a coat of watered down white glue…the end result is a LOT more durable, and paints easier |

So like arrange some small stones/rocks onto a base and then add the foil over the top. |
