Hi Folks

I seem to have volunteered myself for a competition on the LAF in which we have to build a terrain piece under the theme of Fire and/or Ice. So in true Shed style I have decided to build a whopping great big Volcano…I have even drafted in help…

To date I have posted three posts on my blog…each one will take you through to the next..you can start here..

I have to complete this by the end of the month..

Ill add further links to this thread as the build progresses

Nice excavator you've got there. Is that a Bobcat?

Inspiring stuff as usual, Eric. Had a similar issue regarding pink foam at my local Wickes, as they'd previously had loads in the roofing section. Discovered that they'd moved it to the plumbing section for some arcane reason. Weird.

Carrion Crow…are they still selling it your way?

Built a volcano for my daughters school homework, yours is bigger, but my black moggie is fatter.. I mean bigger than yours..;) the volcano was a good use for my dicontinued neon foundry colours… as for foam google craftfoam (based in Sheffield) they sell various thicknesses in 2foot squares or they did a couple of years ago.

Looks like your assistant is preparing the ritual sacrifice.

Eric

They had some in the Andover, Hampshire Wickes on Monday when I was in there. I need to pop in there again today so I'll check and let you know.

Hi Eric

Wickes in Andover had at least a dozen sheets of pink foam, 1200mm X 500mm X 60mm at £9.85 GBP per sheet – although sheet isn't really an adequate description for a big pink block. Doesn't appear to be end of line, so assuming it's standard stock. Might be worth ringing round your local Wickes?

Regards

Hey, what about that tramp steamer!? Did you finish it and not tell us or did I just miss it. I'm a fan of most of your projects but that volcano defies belief – unless you plan on flesh – um – soiling it out to be thicker. Right now it reminds me more of a lava plug than a volcano. Perhaps necessary to keep it within manageable size in the larger scales. As always, will watch with interest to see what develops.

And what did you put in the crater to get that cat so interested? : )

EricThe Shed07 Feb 2015 3:36 a.m. PST

Early Morning Writer…the tramp steamer is still on the go…more to come very soon.

I did consider going bigger but then there is the problem of weight and storage…think of this a more of a small rocky hill with a fire on top ;-)

Some more work finished …

Finished the cladding

Fab-u-lo-so! Of course, some wargamers *do* have gigantic wargames tables, but my guess is that, certainly for us Brits, this volcano looks to be about as big as anyone would want on the table without it taking over and no longer having room for action around it. Personally, I think it's great! Squibzy
