I'm running a kickstarter ATM and I have lots of emails from advertisers saying our company can really boost your backing with our unique service ect, anyway has anyone here used them before? Do you think they are with the money? Cheers |

I got a few of those during my KS and didn't respond to any of them. It just seemed like a scam to me, especially considering an industry like ours that requires very targeted marketing. I doubt they'd know where or how to boost wargaming/tabletop projects, so as long as you've spread the word properly through the usual TMP/forums/Facebook type channels, then they can't offer you anything you're not doing yourself. |

You can ask them about their familiarity and history with wargaming, what wargaming kickstarters they have done marketing for, references, etc. |

Thanks for the response, you seem to have pretty much the same impression I do, I have also made enquires about what they can offer to such a specific audience. |

I chatted this over with a friend who ran a kickstarter at the end of last year, he got the same offers but he didn't reckon it was worth it; in most cases its a pretty generic campaign. His project was a computer game, so had quite a wide potential audience, even so he reckoned that they got more out of promoting the game on fora, and through getting mentioned by other similar kickstarters (and mentioning them in turn). He thought it might be worth doing if they could get you a story on a well read website/magazine, but bombarding ordinary people with emails would likely only annoy potential customers. I think that wargaming figures are niche in that they won't "break out" easily from the wargaming world (like nonsense such as exploding kittens), and that's a world you probably know well anyway, and can conduct your own targeted campaign on the right websites. PS He also recommends you link your facebook page into kickstarter (if you have fans on facebook rather than just a personal friends and family page), to help spread the word. |

I still get emails offering to boost the reach of my website, five years after closing up shop. I think you can safely ignore them. I am also very skeptical of faceBook advertising. Unless you pay A LOT your reach will be pretty minuscule. |
