At least the writer was, at worst, simply guilty of poor prognostication whereas Walter Duranty received a Pulitzer for "real-time" fawning coverage of the U.S.S.R. during Collectivization.

I thought Saddam Hussain made up the stuff about WMDs and convinced the Western nations he had them so they would leave him alone.

Kinda backfired on him.

Saddam convinced all kinds of people he had WMDs.
